Media are required to observe limitations when shooting juveniles in schools, daycares, etc. (Those who are shown on TV are to have signed parental consent forms.)
Notice the video shows plenty of people stopped and milling about. No civilians, including the KVIA crew, were inside a police perimeter. They were on the periphery. And they had every right to remain there.

I saw several issues in this video. The cop never ran off the other bystanders; he targeted the reporter. When he grabbed the reporter, he was technically detaining him while telling him to leave. While at the truck, you can see at least three other vehicles in the emergency lane, which were also stopped. That's also the first time I think I've heard a cop tell someone NOT to place their hands on the vehicle. He was simply looking for a reason to rough the guy up at that point.

The city is so overly populated with traffic flow that any accident, will cause highway lanes to close because there aren't enough lanes open. The reporter didn't do anything wrong, he was only doing his job. The police officer was wrong, he wasn't doing anything but doing his job. All he was doing was interviewing a witness. When he was told to leave he walked back to his car and then the police officer came after him and then arrested him for no reason. There's enough stress having to deal with an accident on the highway without having to tell a stupid news crew to get out of the way. These two bozos SHOULD have been arrested for interference with an accident investigation. If the officer tells you to remove yourself from the scene then just do it and let them do their job. Actually, The reporters were not listening, and disobeying direct orders from law enforcement. However, I dont think the officer was using good discretion. Depending on what the officers reasoning was, but a cop needs to pick his battles. Unless they are directly in the way of investigation, media has every right to observe.

Media are required to observe limitations when shooting juveniles in schools, daycares, etc. (Those who are shown on TV are to have signed parental consent forms.)
Notice the video shows plenty of people stopped and milling about. No civilians, including the KVIA crew, were inside a police perimeter. They were on the periphery. And they had every right to remain there.

The reporter was parked on the road and was obviously blocking traffic. Just look at all the stopped cars behind his truck. If you are obstructing the flow of traffic an officer has every right to ask you to keep moving. Obstructing traffic like that is against the law. You still arent supposed to be in the shoulder unless its an emergency. The other cars might have been people who stopped to help (notice the guy in scrubbs). Neither of us know if the other vehicles were asked to leave as well. However, it is notable to point out that a news van in the sholder still blocks traffic a lot more than a car because people will slow down to try and be on tv. BTW: no matter how many times you say the "f" word it doesnt aggrandize your arguments.

I saw several issues in this video. The cop never ran off the other bystanders; he targeted the reporter. When he grabbed the reporter, he was technically detaining him while telling him to leave. While at the truck, you can see at least three other vehicles in the emergency lane, which were also stopped. That's also the first time I think I've heard a cop tell someone NOT to place their hands on the vehicle. He was simply looking for a reason to rough the guy up at that point.

Cops need a firm hand for the bad guys. But brute force didn't seem necessary (at least from the comfort of my warm cushy couch). Reporters have a knack for instigating IMO. I can understand the lack of tolerance when dealing w/ controlling a accident or crime scene. That cop may have dodged a bullet a day earlier, and they are constantly barraged by the dregs of society. So do a cop ride-along, then judge. So, maybe a ego check for the cop, and reporter pushed the envelope.

The reporter didn't do anything wrong, he was only doing his job. The police officer was wrong, he wasn't doing anything but doing his job. All he was doing was interviewing a witness. When he was told to leave he walked back to his car and then the police officer came after him and then arrested him for no reason. The police officer shoved the reporter onto the car and told him not to touch the car when he wasn't. The reporter was not resisting at all. And they we're only doing their jobs.

This reporter is playing the passive aggressive card. I can't believe so many people don't realize this.
The officer told the reporter to leave the scene of the crime/accident, and to stop rolling the camera. Reporter refuses to go and talks back. Officer tells him again to leave. Reporter stands there doing nothing which is the problem. If a cop tells you to leave, why don't you listen?!
