The opening triplets need to be more uniform. He is playing long-short. Also, the right hand ornamentations are not as smooth as some others I have heard on YT (eg. Vitaly Pisarenko). But overall, pretty good!
I really don't like this guy's rubato. It's as if he has to take a deep breath at the end of EVERY SINGLE MEASURE!! It completely breaks the flow of the piece.
This was an amazing interpretation of this piece. I am playing it for a recital, and I believe this is the grunfeld arrangement. The original piece doesn't have an ascending scale towards the end. The Horowitz version is also magnificent, but I still can't rap my head around how Spooner can maintain a rhythm while still playing soooooo quietly.
Pretty sure its Schwanengesang, D957 - Book 1, No. 4: Standchen by Schubert (song). Liszt was famous for embellishing other composers music usually making them a lot more difficult to play.
Fabulous!

Good people, he is not from Russia. I took a master class with him and his wife. He is from Idaho.
mahooty 4 years ago
yes, with a name such as Steven Spooner it's rather unlikely to come from Russia :)

That's it. Plus, the original version is for voice w/ accompaniment, not piano solo.

Bravo! I enjoy the imitation of the melody on right hand. One question:It is an arrangement of Liszt of Schubert's piece?
