  • Its Awesome But It Costs Too Much!

  • TiVo no need a converter box but the older models need it!

  • I hate the comcast DVR so My mom got Tivo

Tivo is the only real DVR in the world!

  • DirecTV HDDVR can record 400 hrs of SD a n up to 100 hrs in HD with an eSATA port...

  • TIVO is the ONLY REAL DVR!!!!!!!!!!!

  • so say we all

  • SweetBabyJesus!

I also was an early adopter of Tivo...I still have a 20 hr reg/def Tivo..I kept it because I bought the lifetime service for it and they will not allow me to upgrade to a larger drive newer model and keep the lifetime service. I did buy a series2 Tivo with lifetime service and will stay with that.

I am finally buying a hi-def widescreen and I will not buy a new model Tivo if it doesn't work with DirecTv. The cable service here sucks big time so why bother?

  • Tivo is coming back to directv.

  • I'm glad I read these posts, I was just getting ready to buy the Mother's Day Special for my wife; we love our Humax Tivo box, but would like to upgrade to HD quality since Direct TV has the most HD channels. Now I have to find a different present for my wife and stick with low def Tivo. Thank you for the posts making this clearer, I almost feel Tivo is allowing people to be mislead, but kudos to them for allowing this forum. TIVO work with Direct TV and watch the HD boxes sales increase!!!

  • Tivo has the best user interface and most flexible and intuitive programming interface of any DVR. I love my Tivo, and just gave it up for a $5 a month HD-DVR from my cable provider. Yeah, it isn't as easy to use, no online programming options, blah, blah, but it records in high def and it is way cheaper! More importantly, I can use my "ON DEMAND" programming features with the cable DVR, which you can't do with the Tivo. Therefore, as much as I love Tivo, it is a dead product to me.

  • I'm not sure what you're talking about, the Series 3 TiVo's have built-in DTV receivers and will record it in HD just fine. You just connect your antenna straight to the TiVo's RF In.

  • No -Directv is NOT compatible with Tivo 3. You might be able to get some stations through a regular antenna IF in signal range (most people aren't) Basically what happened is Directv decided it would be more profitable to develop their own DVR after several years of using Tivo's software. When they stopped the partnership with Tivo, Tivo no longer supports satellite in a way that you can use Tivo for local HD. The newer Tivos do not even have the port for any satellite access cards.

  • Well then say DirecTV. DTV is the digital broadcasting standard that goes into effect next year. TiVo works fine for local HD, it's called an antenna.

  • You must live next to every TV station in your area if you get full HD with a standard antenna for all of your locals on Tivo. For most if a standard antenna is not pointed in the right direction you will not pick up the HD signal. In 2008 who wants to go on the roof to move their antenna when they switch from CBS to NBC. The issue remains you can not use Tivo(and I love Tivo) to get all of your stations in HD and you can not even use the newer TIVO at all with satellite. Facts are facts!

  • I Love my TiVo (been a charter subscriber since 1997, now using TiVo Ser 2) but there are now other DVRs out there. If I am forced to install Cable just to use TiVo, I believe that will be the end of their reign o'er me.

If they are wise, they will come up with compatibility with HD DTV, add a DVD burner (like my Low Def Humax box has,) and continue their excellent product. "When the paradigm shifts, companies who do not react will perish."

I hope TiVo's marketing people read these blogs!

  • I have started research for the upgrade to HD and I am shocked and disappointed that TiVo 3 is and will remain incompatible with DTV! I do not understand why it would make a difference if the HD audio/video signals come into the TiVo via cable (from cable company's satellite,) or from my own DTV receiver,) but I will take your word for it.

If they do not mend their fences with DTV, when everything goes HD (now predicted around 2009,) TiVo will become a nothing more than a footnote in history.

  • I have just started to research this.

Please clarify the pitfalls you have described in more detail for this nob...

  • The partneship with the two companies probably ended because "one" of them got greedy for money...wonder who?

Meanwhile, those sillies lose lots of potential customers!

  • I love my old Humax Tivo recorder because it will burn my saved programs onto a DVD. When the Tivo machines can do that, I'll upgrade. Otherwise...nope.

  • I miss Tivo. I wish it could still be used with satellite. I refused to go back to cable.

Any word on the break up ever being resolved so Tivo Lovers with Directv can get back to having Tivo?

  • While you can't record and playback in HD you can use the series 2 units with satellite service. I have 5 installed units, all networked and all working great.

  • yea, I know, I still have the old tivo that's compatible with satellite. They're in a closet. They're obsolete with HD now. My TV's are HD so the old series 2 are pointless to me now. I really wish Tivo would work something out with satellite again. I understand it was not a good parting. That's why they no longer work with satellite on the newer and improved models.
