@Swany1818 Look up TSL or "True Start Locations" mod. You should find this mod on a website called civfanatics. Or you could download civilization 5:world builder on the steam program. Follow these directions: Open your steam interface and go to Library >view> Tools. You should see the Civilization V SDK there. Install it and launch it and then you will have world builder. Yes, you can place civs where they are supposed to go in the real world with world builder.

Sir Thunderkleize, I first watched your civ 5 videos about 4-5 months ago now, and they made me fall in love with the game. Though your playing wasn't exactly the best, your optimism and entertaining commentary kept me going through all the videos. I have recently started playing civ 5 again ( I quit because I was kicking butt and the game suddenly wouldn't let me end the turn ) and I have been watching your videos as a guideline, for what to do and what not to do, lol. A good defense strategy which works for me 1) Establish small manageable borders, preferably in between mountains like Thunderkleize does in the city of York 2) defend the borders by placing military units across the entire border in all tiles(water and land). I have found this creates a buffer if you use ranged units later in the game. However, if your borders are vast you must resort to assigning areas to your units to make up for the size of your borders letting units slip thru.

In some of my games, playing 11 other opponents on an Earth map, it takes up to 2.5 min to get to the next turn. It doesn't bother me. It gives me time to think through my options and measures of effectiveness.

You know for such a small empire you kept your cities way too small. Even with 4 cities it's possible to get a very high income and research score by pumping them with growth and cultivating the city states. Also if you are missing strategic resources the best way is to ally with city states that have them. You can even ally with a city state that has uranium so you can nuke people late in the game if you didn't happen to come out near uranium. I just won a game with just 5 cities.

i wish every race had a race-specific military instead of just 1 or 2 units. also wish ranged units could fire a little farther, though balanced by increased movement speed, and then balanced by increased production speed, and then we'd have a game that was more fun to play. instead of good balancing they kinda just nerfed everything into balance... though its still not really balanced. love the concept but damn is this game time consuming and hard

@111Thim Problem is; starting as the Americans is a little anacronistic. If you want accuracy, you have to start as the English, build the US as a colony, then let it secede. However colonies is yet another feature left out from the incomaparable Civ4BTS.

Yes, indeed, continue this Let's Play. You actually have a chance for a score victory if you can take enough cities and boost yourself up enough. Cities are a big part of score, and if any of France's cities have any wonders, that's even MORE score, so yes, you do have a chance, you will just have to be careful about your decisions in the game.

I don't think your as doomed as you think you are, you'll almost certainly take Paris and with it some decent land for the first time in the game so far. You could beat France without too much trouble if you play it smartly (hold Paris for now and let them come to you where your longbowmen and ship of the line can pick them off), once they waste their army trying to retake Paris you can sweep western Europe fairly easily, and become arguably the third or fourth biggest power in the game.

You are doing well with the game, in my opinion. Just keep going until we see your victory (or defeat), but also see if you can start a new game, preferably on the Play On Earth map as America. They can expand pretty quickly and don't have that much competition (ironically, they were destroyed by the Aztec or Iroquois in your game). By the way, just focus on the rival's capitals and conquering them for victory (on both games).

(it might be worth having one city produce some settlers to send off to remote islands, just to pick up the resources (eg iron for your Ship of the Lines). Does greenland / iceland have anything? Madagascar looked pretty nice, but a bit far for a settler to go unaccompanied)
