  • fall not in love therfore, it will stick to your face

  • I feel like a bit of an ididot as after 27 years on this planet, I've only just heard this.

I'll just be glad I've now seen it and shall make up for last time. PLAY AGAIN!

  • Great stuff from Nat Lamp.

  • Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
  • Anyone who has a famed copy of 'Desiderata' on their wall, I shall tie you to a chair and force you to listen to this!

  • @CinnAlla How many people you think even got the reference?...[from a 50 year old]..enjoy!

  • @Anaris10 About as many people who spotted that I typed 'famed' instead of 'framed'.

  • The lemon was on my right, actually. I was going to squeeze some lemonade, but...

I think I'll lock my doors instead.

  • As I've sais before, this is a hoot! I even think it's LESS warped than the original. (I called the phone number abd kept getting busy signals!)

  • They played this on the radio show Flashback or reeling in the years on 94.9 The Fox back around 1987.

  • This is just like the other one! Bleh.

  • Excellent work!

One question, though: Why did you put MIchael Moore up so much?

  • I've been looking for this, too funny !

  • Tee hee!

  • Many a truth was said in jest ! lol

  • @TheARosemary you got that part right, even in today's world.

  • get up

  • This was a great song in the 70's (that's 1970's for you young'uns) and it's even better now.

  • I always thought the line was "hire people with looks", hooks are definitely funnier though.

  • 10/10!!

  • I do know that the female voice is Mellisa Manchester. It is one of the first things she did and she was not so famous at the time.

  • This is good and awesome. Nothing further need be added, other than how this song's existence is making my life good and right.

  • Hell with everyone.

  • I just heard this song on a npr radio station. It immediately became my favorite song of all time. I am going to have to research these musicians.

  • @AdmiralAckbarLHCB you do realize that this song is a tongue-in-cheek parody of the serious prose of desiderata, which is latin for all desired things. it was intended to poke fun at the serious narrative of les crane who won an emmy in 1972 for desiderata, as best spoken song.

  • @bigblondman1 I did not, thank you for pointing that out. All I knew was that it is awesome, thank you for the education.

  • @AdmiralAckbarLHCB

youre welcome. us old guys know a lot of facts like that. after all i was there for that era. LOL!!!

  • Just wanted to take a moment to FINALLY thank you for making this video so special. I really LOVE the way you took such care in picking pics that matched the lyrics AND showed little or no favoritism concerning the political differences between Bush, Clinton and Moore. I've recommended this video to so many folks that I can't even begin to count them! Thanks so much for your hard work and inspiration ;-) I hope folks appreciate it! -I- certainly do!

  • Just wanted to take a moment to FINALLY thank you after months and months of this being one of my all-time favorite videos which I recommend to folks all the time. I love the special care you took in choosing the pics to match the lyrics AND that you did so in such as a way as to show little or not favoritism as to the different politics of Bush, Clinton and Moore. I hope that folks appreciate your hard and inspiring work ;-) I certainly do!

  • What is with the obsession with Michael Moore?

  • National Lampoon Radio Dinner is the album. Still funny!

  • absolute BLAST!

  • This song i awsome

  • excellent!!!!

  • Thanks for the post. Talk about your trips in the way back machine! Great recording-a true all time great.

  • wrong 1st picture. should be that kenyan idiot.

  • too funny!! i'd give this 6 stars if I could.

  • Voiceover talent Norman Rose read the "poem" and then-little known Melissa Manchester was a background singer on the chorus section of the song. Christopher Guest wrote the music.

  • A blast from the past!!!!! I think the first time I

heard this was on the Dr.Demento show

which aired on NPR on Sunday nights.

  • With all its hopes, dreams, promises and urban renewal, the world continues to deteriorate.

    GIVE UP!

  • I'll drink to that!

  • Aye, I'll second that!

  • number one....tell warf to play it again

  • As a resident of Milwaukee I don't think truer words have ever been spoken at

    2:59.

  • 25th & Burnham, agreed!

  • I used to hear this on public radio when I lived in Huntsville, AL. I was never able to find a recording, out of print. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • The first time I heard this on the radio I was tripping on acid, I thought I was having a bad trip. I've loved it ever since.

  • I had this on an old reel-to-reel of the NLRH back in the day - we used to play it in high school.

    Thanks!

  • I do believe it is Ken Nordine narratine or reciting the prose. The former voice of Levi Jeans commercials in the early 70s too.

  • Written by Tony Hendra and Chris Guest. Voices, as mentioned above, are Norman Rose and Melissa Manchester. (The original, read by Les Crane, is based on something written in the 1920s, despite the "found in an ancient church" nonsense that was printed on a million posters in the 70s. It's maybe worth listening to one time to see where this came from.)

  • I REMEMBR THIS FROM 30 YEARS AGO. I GOT A promotional copy

  • I did not know that Norman Rose died in 2004.

  • I played this song as the intro for my college radio show back in the 1980's.

  • Melissa Manchester never sounded so well as she did singing this chorus.

  • haha - I remember how we used to laugh at this natlamp spoof back in the 70's. Funny pictures on the video too. Thanks!

  • And reflect that what ever mis-fourtune may be your lot, it could only be worse in Milawalkee. LMFAO!

  • It's funny cause I live in Milwaukee and it is true!! :)

  • And Bud Selig is from Milwaukee!

  • God Bless you for posting this. You just made my day!

  • @Brazzle Is MIlwaukee the only place that has spelling in Language Arts class? no wonder it sucks...

  • @surfwaxamerica333 Ha! I try my best to be the linguistic Nazi most of the time. Trust me, grammatical errors piss me off, but it's kind of funny to get called out on one every now and then, reminds me that I'm not so far from error myself. I'm gonna go ahead and blame this one on sheer laziness and booze. :p

  • take heart in the deepening gloom that your dog is finally getting enough cheese...

  • I could go for a cosmic muffin right about now.
