Ace Combat: Assault Horizon First Playthrough - Mission 1: 'Nightmare'

If you complete the campaign on Pilot difficulty, can you replay the missions from free mission on Elite in order to unlock Ace, or do you have to start a new game on Elite to get that difficulty?

@Warhawk325 Weather or not that means start a new game or play elite on the free missions is irrelevant now; I finished the game on Elite for my first playthrough and I don't want to even touch Ace for most of the missions, especially Akula. :'( I miss AC6.

@billforigno I found Ace a great way to prepare for multiplayer. Some missions are infuriating on Ace, but tons of fun. Akula being one of them.

If these renegade ruskies went up against Mobius 1, Gryphus 1, Demon Lord, Razgris team, Scarface One, Nemo, The Red Devil(female Eurasian Irish manga character), and Garuda team as a full squadron. They've pissing and pooping in their shorts,if they heard of them as being high kill ratio aces, especially Nemo who's an AI software pilot(movie 'Stealth' fighter. anyone).

4) The HUD & map display is kinda boring (too simple). Maybe to show better view of the screen.

5) Warwolf kinda reminded me of Wardog in AC5 XD

6) Do we have to DFM to all the targets? Thats tedious!

7) I don't know about you, but I missed the mysterious ace pilot that leads in every AC games but having a name and a face is not bad either!

Thats all I can say for now... still, a great game AND a Ace pilot!

Wow, nice gameplay! (Like usual, Ace buddy!)

Anyway I have a lot of comments on the new game:

1) The graphic is awesome! I like the details on the plane, the buildings, missile & gun damage, everything!

2) The new rule of engagement (DFM,ASM&Counter) is kinda complex but I like it, just it takes time to get used. The enemy is harder to die in DFM than just shoot the missile at them (pro&con).

3) I don't like how the screen gets cluttered by shrapnel & embers. It's irritating!

Some things I don't like about this game:

1. The cockpit HUD is completely useless. It s so tiny that you can't even read the information displayed on it.

2. The same goes for the mission map. It is so small and cluttered you can't make anything out.

3. No free flight mode. Wanna explore the pretty maps without worrying about mission objectives or bad guys trying to kill you every five seconds? Tough shit!

4. I don't know about everyone else but I kinda miss the Strangereal world.

@MWgame1993 If you're after Free Flight, then you're going to be disappointed. Completing the campaign makes the PAK-FA and Mi-24 Hind playable and unlocks Free Mission amongst other things. However, there is no mode in which you can aimlessly fly around the maps.

@COD04MW Should I get this game? I have played every AC game since Shattered Skies and I'm a little displeased with how AH plays because the demo was horrible. I know its not the first AC to leave Strangereal, but even Joint Assault wasn't that bad. This game feels more fake (I know AC isn't a sim) that the others in the series. I don't like the aspect of knowing the pilot and flying any aircraft other than a fighter, but being a hardcore AC fan, I'm a little hesitant if whether I should buy it

@GuyInGhillieSuit Well, I am also a hardcore AC fan, and yeah, while the game lacks in good story and characters, and the DFM use is kinda... Forced, but trust me, you're going to love the fast-paced action and enemy planes shattering into pieces once you can enjoy the game. The MP is not bad either, only lack of dedicated servers makes you run risk into random disconnects and lags. But I still like the MP.

Overall, it's good to take a break from mainstream FPS with this :)

A nifty trick you should try: in the sections with the idiots that line up for the AAMs, try to gun down someone other than your DFM target. Insta kill in the demo :)

Old habits with that reverse AAM launch, uh.

But I have to say that, unfortunately, I won't be able to watch this playthrough for the time being. I'll leave you to guess why.

@br0th3rsh00t3r I think part of it came down to the fact that I've played the demo enough times to know what happens, and I just got bored. Not to mention an actual campaign run doesn't hand out points for kills or anything.

Yep, it's a quick launch tactic. I do forego it slightly in later parts.

@omglolwtf66 Yeah, of course. Though I'm not burnt form the demo, since I've been training counters more than anything.

Well, everyone nitpicks about at least one minor thing: that was the source of the buckloads of rage we've seen. I really only had two: an Ace Mode with that name (at least in AC, an Ace stands tall above a l33t), and a score counter, given that I OCD about sanitizing the map. But oh well.

And does the quick launch work in AH, too? Didn't notice a change in launch speed.

I, too, enjoy taking once-great game franchises and replacing that which requires skill with quicktime events, and that which offers freedom with on-rails segments. I'll only ever forgive namco for this if they use the admittedly great engine and the renewed interest in the Ace Combat name to make a kickass Ace Combat 7.
