Well... Sean Connery is a legend, so how could anyone compete? That being said, Pierce Brosnan was the absolute best of the other actors to play James Bond. He is the only one other than Connery that has the suave sophistication and the "ladies man" image that are staples of the Bond character.

As the Broccolis would say, Bond actors are chosen based on what type of personality is needed for the period. Connery was needed for a period when feminism was just a funny idea, Moore was needed for a period when people needed to relax and lighten up a bit, Brosnan was chosen for a period where women began to assert themselves more formidably, requiring the Bond of the period to be "perfect" and Craig was chosen for a period where a more "real" Bond was needed.
