Brian, the hopeful atheist, i really like your videos. i hope you will do more! Your open, articulate, and compassionate delivery is very impressive!
i am very interested in your thoughts on how atheism/rationalism can better work for progress.
I too am hopeful, but not complacent, about the potential for human progress and innovation. Thoughtful, intelligent, and engaging people like you are a large reason for my hope.
Those two videos are delivered with such kindness respect and compassion, I am very impressed thank you for posting. Now I'll go watch your other seven. :o)
I saw "The Path" by Chet Raymo a few days ago. After watching this video I went back to buy it.
I could identify with your realization that the cherry tree just 'is'. I think understanding this concept is key to recovery.
While not an adherent, I came to understand this concept through Buddhist and Taoist philosophy. I would highly recommend "Living With the Devil" or Buddhism Without Beliefs" by Stephen Batchelor or "Philosophers Without Gods" by Louise Antony.
Thanks for the book recommendations! The second sounds particularly interesting to me because I appreciate some of the concepts I casually know about Buddhism, but I find the theology (like other theologies) to require positive belief in ideas that sound very unlikely to me, such as reincarnation. So a book that takes the concepts out of the theological framework sounds very interesting. I will definitely check that out, along with the others you mention.
Right on!!! I agree with all you have said in your videos. The communicity I grew up in was Jehovah's Wintesses, the types and kinds of people going to their Kingdom Halls are in my eys "sad and unhappy" people.
hey, hopefull! another great video. keep 'em up. I'm glad you take the time to explain your self clearly and with out contempt. it makes a difference.
Great thoughts. I enjoy all your videos. Keep posting them. I think you are making a very meaningful contribution to those who either left or are planning their exit (which is my case) from the cult. Thanks so much.
Reading was what delivered me from a life of mental inactivity.
Oliver Wendal Holmes said it well "A mind stretched to a new idea never returns to its original dimensions".
I know that I could never go back to being a Witness or any other religion. Though it is difficult to be outside the organization when many family members are still fervent believers.
superb review greatly appreciated

Good video, a sincere attempt to help those who were trapped and hurt by an oppressive religion.

I too view most JW's as "sad and unhappy". Rather misrable. And if they aren't that then they are just mean, self righteous and hypocritcal.

Excellent advice.
You mirror many of my experiences.
Reading was what delivered me from a life of mental inactivity.
Oliver Wendal Holmes said it well "A mind stretched to a new idea never returns to its original dimensions".

Still, the mental clarity is worth it!!
