The mining industry in America has a long and sordid history of destroying the land it is mining. Strip mining is especially bad and that is one of the reasons that the EPA was set up. Mining responsibly IS expensive but ruining the land is more.
i think gold platinum silver etc is worthless for jewelery. if i had gold jewelry or gold at all i would sell it never wear it. makes you look rich, but for me it doesn't make me feel any better then i felt w/o it.
"Just the government getting in the way of free business..."
More like just the government getting in the way of free range pollution. Metal mining is responsible for 96% of arsenic emissions and 76% of lead emissions in the United States. Every year, US mines generate an amount of waste equivalent in weight to almost nine times the trash produced by all US cities and towns combined. If you cannot pull it out safely, we'd rather it stayed where it was.
@adavidpirtle yeah. I'd like to see him put his hands in that water once the government gets out of the way and free business gets in. and we can watch his skin peel off right in front of our eyes with all the toxic garbage that will be flowing in that lil creek...
Same thing happened in California, you can no longer use a motorized dredge. God damn you Arnold. I bought a claim down in Oregon that worked out pretty good for me through the summer.

A classic example of a EPA at work would be a satellite image of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. You dont need a line on a map to show you where the border is. You can clearly see where man has striped the landscape bare.
@Rocksolidvb There's nothing like a bunch of faggot kiwi's. I resounded to a question that didn’t under stand why the EPA wouldn’t let them mine it. I was showing an example.
oh no you cant destroy the environment for a piece of metal what will we do think about the kids sure they will live in a shitty world but at least they will have gold
Anyway, a little advice for panning, an easier way is to screen it with mesh, or use a sluice (sluice is more if you're gunna be doing this a lot). Now if you are doing this a lot, and you got the money, I would recommend getting a gold wheel and/or a blue pan. It does all the work for you, but panning still is the most effencient (just you have to actually work :P)
dont worry, if you go to the right site, or you are on the right video for youtube, most people help you out, instead of yelling at you, saying their way of life is the only way.
That's worse than having every mountain top removed to produce coal for electricity to power TV's and Computer screens, or having every habitat sitting on top of an oil field destroyed so that we can help run our carbon emitting vehicles, or penetrating every gold and silver mine so that we can show off our worthless BLING to everyone else? Man why do conservatives love civilization and love destroying the planet so much???

Some believe the Rockefeller family are a part of a secret cabal working against the best interest of the United States, characterizing my family and me as "internationalists" and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated, political, and economic structure, one world if you will, if that's the charge, I stand guilty and am proud of it!
-2002 David Rockefeller Memoirs autobiography page 405
Sweet, thanks for the little update. I've got some gold flecks that I found that way when I was a kid here in BC Canada. Some people still pan for gold that way all over the place. They don't really like to talk about it otherwise everybody would be competing for it :)
Interestingly mineral rights are relatively cheap here in BC and they actually supersead land title rights. I have often thought land title rights are kind of like the Dutch tulip bulb bubble. You really own nothing with land title. You are a smart man to bring this topic up. I used to work a placer claim when I was a kid.
That is hilarious. I was going to ask you when you were out my way if you wanted to go panning with my family. Eureka! There are some really good pans and sluices these days- grizzly and prospector pro, that allow you to fly through concentrates.

I did it once and it was fun and easy. It is pretty easy on the environment, too.

I love gold panning. One good pan of flakes and you get gold fever - hooked for life.
I have always thought it would be fun to own a claim but it never seemed practical with a busy life.
