The mining industry in America has a long and sordid history of destroying the land it is mining. Strip mining is especially bad and that is one of the reasons that the EPA was set up. Mining responsibly IS expensive but ruining the land is more.

Anyway, a little advice for panning, an easier way is to screen it with mesh, or use a sluice (sluice is more if you're gunna be doing this a lot). Now if you are doing this a lot, and you got the money, I would recommend getting a gold wheel and/or a blue pan. It does all the work for you, but panning still is the most effencient (just you have to actually work :P)

Interestingly mineral rights are relatively cheap here in BC and they actually supersead land title rights. I have often thought land title rights are kind of like the Dutch tulip bulb bubble. That is hilarious. I was going to ask you when you were out my way if you wanted to go panning with my family. Eureka! There are some really good pans and sluices these days- grizzly and prospector pro, that allow you to fly through concentrates.
