  • Cats! Absolute cats!

  • It's like the adults are talking.

  • There are 116 assholes over there

  • Take Five: a primeira música de jazz que ouvi. Tinha 13 anos. Me encantou. Depois, Paul Desmond respondeu com Take Ten. Procurem ouvir. DEMAIS!!!!!!!!!

  • I know this is a Desmond piece and it showcases him, but this is one of the best bands I've ever heard. Long live Morello!

  • sounding magic

  • This is a template for all other progressive pieces. Just brilliant,

  • 5/4 LIKE A BOSS

  • Fantastic - I like it

  • 5/4.....

  • I normally don't like jazz, but after I heard this song a few years ago, it's been one of my favorites ever since.

  • @ChocolatePheonix You didn't hear TAKE FIVE until a few years ago? I won't ask how old you are, since that's a rude question. Your comment got my attention, though, since I remember the music from my childhood. Whoa! That really dates a person, doesn't it?

  • @1960peaches29 That's right; I'm still in highschool, so I'm not really accustom to this kind of music - my parents don't/didn't really listen to it, so I didn't get to hear it until we played it for my first year in jazz band. The stuff's way before my time, but I appreciate more than the music of mine. :)

    Hah, yeah.

  • Feeling like a Sir

  • One of the best jazz songs ever written. PERIOD. Anybody who disagrees with me is only doing that because they were not raised properly.

  • wait a sec...how'd i get here from final fantasy wiki?

  • i wish i was in the crowd too!

  • This was about the time I went to see him. A man I considered a friend flew down to take me to the concert and then afterwards proposed to me. I said no and literally ran out of the room. The concert was great -- the rest of the evening was not.

  • @basicaa .....but you got to see BRUBECK! That is Phenominal. Sorry for the guy,....I am sure he found someone else.

  • @QueenBeeBBQ My thoughts exactly -- I will never forget that concert. What an incredible group of legendary musicians!

  • @basicaa Wonderful story, thank you for sharing it here - it adds to the already great video

  • @basicaa I guess you could say you needed to "Take 5". Heh.

  • @Ocantus Too bad I didn't think of saying that... instead I was so shocked to hear a proposal from a man I barely knew that I stammered and stuttered and then said a quick goodbye and left. I was a young 18 year old and he was 25.

  • @basicaa Haha. I hope you've found the one for you now then. Cheers!

  • @Ocantus I met the love of my life 25 years ago oddly enough the same city where I saw/experienced The Dave Brubeck Quartet.

  • @basicaa You meanie!!!

  • watch?v=T_lh5fR4DMA stupid

  • @basicaa so stupid watch?v=T_lh5fR4DMA

  • @basicaa Why tell us this?

  • I'm definetly born in the wrong decade T_T

  • i´m not someone who says to every video "23 people are... " but i HAVE to say that 113 people don´t know nothing about the sense of life

Thank you, now I'm going to take about 500 of "take 5".

  • anteojos rojos

  • more addictive than drugs

  • @ilmedico100 fuck yeahhh

  • Great playing, but no drum solo??

  • youtube should disable dislike button for masterpieces like this one

  • @cuckovic i am with you on that ...

  • @cuckovic I like how the diskile bar disapears when less than 1/100th of the people disliked, its like "yeah, there are dislikes, but who cares, 1/100th is zero" :D

  • @cuckovic Yes ... i'm totally ... agree ... Dave Brubeck ^^ ..... pffffff qulle musique ....

  • @cuckovic They don't have to disable the dislike button. Sure, there are a few people who won't care for the video, if it isn't their thing. Look at the votes which have been cast so far, though. If anything, we're wearing out the thumbs up button. This reminds me of a car my father drove during the early 1970s. The car was durable, and eventually the odometer reached the limit and returned to zero. By the time the car broke down altogether, the odometer read approx. 300 miles.

  • @1960peaches29 At least he got his money's worth from that! That's a pretty crazy story.

  • @1960peaches29 so it was a new car!

  • @cuckovic you are so right, thank you so much!!!

  • @Sprockification Yeah, fuck free speech and own opinions, let's remove the dislike button.

  • @ZakobYoa exactly, thank you. even if it´s sarcasm, thank you. :)

  • fucking version play it like in the simpsons!

  • the 112 people are def

  • Who knew my math professor could play..

  • si te lleva a otra parte......

    jeje waaauuu...

  • On of the most badass jazz tunes of all time

  • exkisito

  • FANTASTICO !!!

  • i wish i was that sax

  • I Love This.......NOONE should click "Dislike" for this, they should just go back to listening to Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga or whatever and stick their heads back up their asses where it belongs.....NAZI's

  • @efilgnikcufecina

    I totally agree

  • It's funny because take five is in 5/4 and the video was 5 minutes long. that's a lot of fives

  • @oviefofah High five!

  • master piece indeed beutiful :)

  • Love It

  • ANTEOJOS ROJOS a este hermoso clasico del jazz

  • reminds me of my childhood, dinner was on the table, the weather was great, and my parents were together. this was one of my dad's favs.

  • great song, and i play the saxophone so this really inspires me to play.

  • Choice very choice

  • Just one of those tunes that just seems to fall out of the heavens!

And yes, they were wearing what we used to call in the Navy, "Birth Control Glasses."

  • very nice, and except the bassist- everyone wears glasses, cool as.

  • I could just imagine at their concerts. The only thing Dave Brubeck would say is "Gentlemen!!!.....Take 5" and without skipping a heartbeat, they start the song live. :D

  • Taste is a funny thing! I cannot imagine anyone actively disliking this wonderful little piece of music, regardless of what else they might like or dislike. Indeed, I would have serious misgivings about anyone who actually did dislike it ... in the same way I would have doubts about someone who really disliked a little kitten. Such people surely bear watching! ;-)

  • There once was this cat down the alley that loved all the chicks from the valley but mostly Sally so off down the streets they'd dilly dally past so many countless bars too hard to tally to the dumpster on the docks for naval galleys they'd eat the treats in the streets by Thee Bay in Cali as they'd hear "Chili Today, Hot Tamale!

  • I think it's weird that teenagers insult each other because of their music taste. I'm a 15 year old girl and I listen to jazz. So what? Just leave me alone for gods sake I'm listening to one of the greatest genre of all time.

  • I saw them, as a 20-year old, on a British tour in about 1961 with the fabulous singer Carmen McCrae. I sat and listened, and suddenly it all clicked in my mind.

I have been hooked on Jazz ever since. - Thank you Dave, for a gift beyond price.

Thanks also to TheSarge5445 for uploading it.

Tragic that the genius Paul Desmond died so young.

  • I was sad, but this music just put me in a better mood. Thanks!!!

  • Brubeck said that the group originally (circa 1962) had trouble playing in 5/4, but even then it was easy for a choral singer - just think a 3/4 bar followed immediately by a 2/4 bar, take out the bar line, and keep repeating. I have sung all his oratorios, including the first performance of "Tongues of Fire" in Cincinnati, 1985, where he was revising the score up to the last rehearsal. Text compiled from scripture by wife Iola have burned them into my soul; I still regret not telling him.

  • Instant I heard the that guy play sax I immediately knew he was Paul Desmond.

  • wish i was in the crowed

  • @Tamar940

No e in crowd also no f in bananas

  • @zzzed55 oops :D

  • awesome !!!

  • Not the greatest but he NAILS it it here, and if he did nothing else, AMEN.

  • Im going to watch this everyday for 109 days so i can 'like' it everyday and offset the dislikes.

  • @DaJbro024 That doesn't make any sense.

  • Seriously... Who 'disliked' this?

  • @bradleyjgreene It has something to do with democracy, taste, education, age, hometown, neighbours, language, feelings, sex. In fact with everything. And when some people say I don t like this,it is just because they had never the pleaure to enjoy this kind of musik in the right place at the right time. Discover and it will make your life brighter.

  • @fannypapillon Do I really need to put "rhetorical" on my posts?

  • I love this song.

  • Paul Desmond is incredible ! You just don't hear players playing like this again ...!

    Thanks for posting this.

    Peace -

    Thomas ~

  • great tempo. i think this is better than the studio recording.

  • i think this was the first jazz piece to have 5 beats in a bar hence the name being called take five.

  • awesome

  • 109 people must be deaf and they're mad that they'll never be able to listen to this masterpiece.

  • @TheSarge5445 Or they just can't count to five

  • @TheSarge5445

Dave Brubeck's been a fairly divisive figure in jazz from the get-go. The jazz establishment resented how his cool, intellectual, style of jazz was ravenously embraced on college campuses where the boppers, and post-boppers were largely ignored. His success at selling records didn't help matters. Even in the 90s, Steve Malkmus cited Brubeck as ruining jazz.

That aside, he's one of my favorites, and "Take Five" ranks among the best jazz songs

  • beau tiful :V

  • Pakistan's jazz version is a must listen

  • That saxophone is so goddamn sly.

  • The Pakistani version is amazing!

  • Takes me back to 1962 when Norman Granz brought them to London. Bliss. Thanks for the clip.

  • The Sims Músical background...

  • Drink bourbon, smoke white widow, die young

  • Paul Desmond technically is credited with writing this. But only the main theme. It was a collaboration between Desmond and Brubeck. And because this is Jazz, each time they play this each musician is rewriting this piece. The same song is never performed twice. That is the sign of mastery.

  • a lot of jazz tunes have the same structure as the first movement in a symphony: A - B - A -- statement of a theme, development of the theme (read: improvisation), then restatement of the theme -- and even Bach and other composers would include a blank section where the lead violinist or other musician would be allowed to improvise - not so different, it's just that many symphonies are the same every performance, and the jazz piece is always to a large extent uniquely original - like 'em both -

  • @theiceman259 boom ch, bom ch, bom ch x2

  • Happy Birthday old man.

    91 years old, WOW.

  • it's harder to play than it seems, trust me. I play alto sax by the way.

  • I didn't know that J.J. Abrams played sax!

  • This is a different version that the hit record of long ago, but it's still good. Admittedly, he was a big influence on my sax playing -- his tone is soft without an edge. Love it!

  • @RayKalmNiam this is indeed a sing that god exists.

  • I love that they are so cool that Dave nods slightly and cooly to Paul after his solo.

  • "Legend" "Epic"

  • Jazz forever! #le tenor saxophone player

  • this song is the apex of coolness

  • @paulomuniruequed

    definitely.

  • L E G E N D A R Y

  • A Timeless Classic!

  • does any one "know" where you can legally eat crisps?

  • Maybe the 105 dislikes were in the bathroom having diarrhea while the song was playing on stage and they missed it.

  • Wouah Joe morello maitre du temps et du tempo. Impressionant a voir et a écouter Impressionnant.

  • This is the best version ever of Take 5. I love the moment in 2:20 when David starts playing along Paul's solo and Paul softens a bit and David smiles. Priceless.

  • st Germain used a samp so well :) BUT you know

  • @1undread really ? Which track ?

  • @litlelouis "Rose rouge" from his album Tourist. some of the best house music around.

  • @Pierrotechnique Ahh yes of course ! "i want you to get together"

  • @litlelouis indeed :)

  • @litlelouis although, fair warning: it's house music, so it becomes 4/4. not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

  • This song makes me think of a guy in a black tux standing under the shadows the Eiffel tower while a group of rich people are having an outside dance. At around 0:25 he comes out, picks the most beautiful woman there and starts to dance with her while everyone else is in the background looking and the woman is stunned by the character's smoothness. At around 0:36 he leaves her a goes back to the shadows. And the rest of the song is a wild chase through the streets for the man...who cant be found

  • @GibsonDeAndre Imagination is key. Bravo!

  • @GibsonDeAndre dude, you better ALWAYS stay classy. Couldn't have said it better

  • @GibsonDeAndre that would be a brilliant music video for this song.

  • @GibsonDeAndre It really does sound like that! Perhaps even as a cartoon with silhouettes.

  • @GibsonDeAndre dude your high too?!?

  • @GibsonDeAndre nice
