Fires are named for a geographic reference to their area of origin. The Witch Fire was so named because it began around Witch Creek. The Harris Fire began on Harris Ranch Road. The Cedar Fire began above Cedar Creek Falls, and so on.
My cousin (lived near San Diego) lost her home and everything else in this fire. Everything but the clothes on her back, most of her "important paperwork", her son, and a pick-up truck. That's all she has now. But - at least she's alive and physically uninjured.
I am sorry. If you want me to film her story, I would be glad to do it so others might be able to help out. Drop me an e-mail and I would be happy to get her story out.
She's OK - she has some good insurance and stuff.... I'll find out more today [Friday] as my dad is "command central" back in Michigan to take care of the family.
It's indeed surreal to see this huge fire. In The Netherlands we listen to the news about it and see it on tv, but when this guy is actually in it and telling about it, that makes it real. I hope the fires will be controlled and over soon! Good luck to you all over there!
My mom was visiting family in California for 2 weeks.. she left home on a plane to Michigan the DAY the fires started. I am so thankful she is home and that none of our family over there is hurt. Be safe, I'm happy that you still have a home to go to.
A heartfelt thank you, silverdaisy18. My family has been fortunate. But MANY people are not so lucky. Please do what you can. This Holiday season will not bode well for a lot of kids down here:(

Glad that you made it out (and back) OK!

Love the "roast weenies" comment too! Put a little humor and human element into an otherwise unimaginably tragic and scary situation.
