BAD INFORMATION! Video of the plane crashing was during take-off. I know this because the "computer malfunction" was not actually a malfunction. The computer was acting normally but due to this crash they changed the programming. With the earlier program, when the pilot lifted his gear, the thrust vectoring system was turned on. Normally not a problem but when this low to the ground, there isnt much room to maneuver. It was simply because the thrust vectoring was engaged that caused the crash.

This was circa 1991, airframe number 2, this aircraft had the short nose prior to lengthening the fuselage to get the pilot out in front of the air intakes. The malfunction was on landing and the PIO, or pilot induced oscillation, was caused by the programming for the control surface dampening. Airframe was salvaged and rebuilt with the long fuselage.

I believe this was a line of software code issue, rather than a computer hardware problem.

The pilot was retracting the landing gear while simultaneously utilizing thrust vectoring. There was a discrepancy in the input and the output of the controls to the flight surfaces as a result somewhere along the line.
