What this movie portrait is that if the humans don't care for each other or the planet earth (manteinance of the environment, etc), we will all end the humanity faster.

The effects are very good for an all CG movie, even with the stereotypical explosions all over. As for the rest of the movie, I can only say that it felt like one long, and massive guilt trip. Scenes where the children are killed still greatly disturb me and the film leaves me feeling empty inside. The story itself just feels ripped out of some cutrate SyFy made for TV movie, only less painful to watch.

This film is a pure example of media at its best. And what does the media do? Suck people into falsified and faked stories. There is no scientifical or ancient contemporary evidence to suggest anything like this would actually happen. It is a mis interpretation of the Mayan calendar. Where the film got the idea of "It could really happen" I will never know and to be honest is quite offensive.

No, the mayan calender was interpreted wrongly. It represents the end of an old 24,000 year cycle. There will be great change and upheaval (as there already has been and will continue to be). But as with all endings there are new beginnings, which is a good thing looking at the current state of the world
