I think once they get to the point of having fur you don't have to worry about the mother eating them. It's mostly in the first few days after she gives birth, when they're still little pink jellybeans. The reason they do it is in the wild if a predator finds the nest it's usually game over so they try to eat some of the babies to regain nourishment so they can have more babies. It's a survival tactic, so just make sure their food and water is full when they're close to giving birth, then leave.

Hey maybe the snake lover could throw a couple of live kittens in to just for the fun of it, maybe watching one of their little eyeballs pop under the pressure would turn him on, it takes all sorts of people eh! Snake food. All the pet stores around me stopped selling feeder mice. They now sell 'pet' mice, which for some reason are more expensive than hamsters. So now I throw a couple Dwarfs in her cage every time she starts hunting. I gotta admit, they put up more of a fight than those little white mice. But ultimately, they all fall victim to my darling's coils. Kinda sad because they're so cute, but circle of life and all that. Blame PETA and democrats.
@KyleCMJohnson true that snakes cant exactly live off peas and carrots but im more concerned about the well being of your girl.... its VERY dangerous feeding pet snakes live prey. rodents are fast, have very sharp teeth and will fight for as long as they can.... Your snake can get severally bitten or injured if she hasnt already. I HATE seeing otherwise beautiful snakes all scarred up or missing an eye because their idiot owners think its "wrong" to prekill.
@TheDizzydragon You obviously haven't seen a hungry ball python in action, then. She hits so hard and fast that the prey is left stunned. She once smashed a mouse against the wall of her cage so hard it left a blood smear. After the hit, she squeezes it so hard that it dies with seconds. Sometimes instantly, due to spinal trauma. I've observed a mouse's eyes literally burst from the pressure. They also have scales for a reason. Armor. She's been bitten once or twice, but they seldom scar her.
@KyleCMJohnson you underestimate people to much.Its clear to me you are just looking for people to argue with you over the mouse. i dont care how she plays with her food.But hey if you care enough about your python to keep her cage clean and are keeping an eye on her while she's feeding then more power to ya.But still it is NOT a good idea to feed them live prey, regardless of how actuate of a hunter they may be. Scales only do so much, hell if it was my baby i wouldnt want a SCRATCH on her.

I think once they get to the point of having fur you don't have to worry about the mother eating them. It's mostly in the first few days after she gives birth, when they're still little pink jellybeans. The reason they do it is in the wild if a predator finds the nest it's usually game over so they try to eat some of the babies to regain nourishment so they can have more babies. It's a survival tactic, so just make sure their food and water is full when they're close to giving birth, then leave.

Snake food. All the pet stores around me stopped selling feeder mice. They now sell 'pet' mice, which for some reason are more expensive than hamsters. So now I throw a couple Dwarfs in her cage every time she starts hunting. I gotta admit, they put up more of a fight than those little white mice. But ultimately, they all fall victim to my darling's coils. Kinda sad because they're so cute, but circle of life and all that. Blame PETA and democrats.

@KyleCMJohnson true that snakes cant exactly live off peas and carrots but im more concerned about the well being of your girl.... its VERY dangerous feeding pet snakes live prey. rodents are fast, have very sharp teeth and will fight for as long as they can.... Your snake can get severally bitten or injured if she hasnt already. I HATE seeing otherwise beautiful snakes all scarred up or missing an eye because their idiot owners think its "wrong" to prekill.

@TheDizzydragon You obviously haven't seen a hungry ball python in action, then. She hits so hard and fast that the prey is left stunned. She once smashed a mouse against the wall of her cage so hard it left a blood smear. After the hit, she squeezes it so hard that it dies with seconds. Sometimes instantly, due to spinal trauma. I've observed a mouse's eyes literally burst from the pressure. They also have scales for a reason. Armor. She's been bitten once or twice, but they seldom scar her.

@KyleCMJohnson you underestimate people to much.Its clear to me you are just looking for people to argue with you over the mouse. i dont care how she plays with her food.But hey if you care enough about your python to keep her cage clean and are keeping an eye on her while she's feeding then more power to ya.But still it is NOT a good idea to feed them live prey, regardless of how actuate of a hunter they may be. Scales only do so much, hell if it was my baby i wouldnt want a SCRATCH on her.
