They DID do extensive research for the show's style and if you're hung up on pure aesthetics then you're missing the beauty of the show entirely.I don't know if you have ever worked in an office but every workplace has it's share of frumpy ladies.

the men's dress is dead on and very stylish, however the OFFICE womens hair, make up and wardrobe are ALL WRONG, VERY DOWDY like the depression era 30's and war years 40's wiith andrews sisters hairdo's and overall plain fugly. just check the hundreds of office drama and comedies of the m,id 50's thru about 66; AND the styles were really GREAT. the office women except for joannie, are truly frumpy......why????
