A moist wind comes from the Gulf of Mexico to the United States; northbound.

In summary, from a land mass to a land mass is usually warm and dry. coming from a body of water to a land mass is usually moist.

Wow, in Canada in the Northwest Territories the winds can get up to 100 mph across the flat tundra and have been known to pick a semi trucks entire trailer right up off the road while driving. Once in Alaska a man training for the Iditarod dog sled race also had his entire sled team (about 16 dogs I believe?) picked right up into the air by the wind.
