Oh my Olympic, My Gorgeous Old Reliable!!! You were so stunning, so beautiful, so graceful, so strong. I wish I lived back then so I could have seen you with my own eyes. RIP My Baby Olympic!!!:D
Ireland sure knows how to build ships, seeing the beauty and grace of the three olympic class liners made me embrace my heritage, the olympic should have been saved, i have tried to deny it but the fact is its gone, and it saddens me, but no ship will ever match the "old reliable's" great service and amazing looks, she was beautiful, fast, strong, and could get the job done, if she were here today, i would give anything to walk her decks for just a few minutes we all miss you olympic R.I.P
the RMS Olympic is definately my favourite ship of the era, its a shame she was decommissioned, but at least she had 24 years of service. and its His Majestys Transport Ship, King George V was the monarch during the war
@joedgillis Tell me about it aye! I miss the long bows that ships use to have and the funnels in a row nestled between the two masts. Ships are nowhere near as majestic and graceful as they once were an dto someone like me that's heart breaking..
i thought the main reason she was scrapped was because she was to hard to maintain and that her decks wouldn't last due to the old ship building methods and that her funnel's could inevitably have collapsed through the ship? or something along those lines
@haywoodbadman10 that all comes with her age, she had reached the life expectancy of an ocean liner of that period. and the white star line had amalgamated with cunard in 1935 from cunard white star. with the QM1 on order there was no need for the Olympic and thus she was scrapped.
I don't care anymore. Olympic was Titanic's sister. She should not have been scrapped. If Titanic was curse, then Olympic would have been too, & turn everybody who sailed on her to zombies & as for me, I would been curse just for falling in love with her. If that was the case, why wasn't I turn into a full blown zombie
I feel the same way, the Olympic would have been a great relic to have now. I imagine that at the time it was junked, good ship building steel was at a premium and WWII was only a few years away, and the person who sold the steel from it, made a huge profit. I understand some of the Olympic survived and parts of it are in hotels around the world. Sail on!
It may be a bit difficult to build the ships as they cost an estimate of $100 million in todays money. If i were to build replica's of the Titanic, Olympic and Britannic i would use them as they were when they were in commision.
It's a shame the Olympic was sold and scrapped after he final voyage. It would have made a perfect floating museum of the White Star Line and her sister ships, and a perfect for people in the 21st century to experience what it was like on the Titanic...before the night of April 14, 1912 of course.
Hymn to the Sea. I love this piece of music. RMS Olympic was a beautiful Liner. The Ocean Liners are my family, & I will never let them go.

@SSPoseidon846 for me i think the ss Normandie was the best looking liner of the lot. for their time the 'Olympic' and 'Titanic' had great lines also
