@qwuezalothus The crystal is later seen in the Fortress, back at its previous size. Theoretically, it caused a subatomic reconstruction of the matter it found around it, namely the glacier. Remember, this is a lost civilization that is later described as exploring 28 separate galaxies. 'Star Trek', and 20% of the Milky Way? Star Wars, and distant 'Outer Rim' sections? 28 galaxies, by Krypton. Subatomic reconstruction, probably an old staple.

I remember seeing this movie when it came out as a kid and the 3 things that I remember are the part when he first busted out as Superman(one of the most epic movie moments ever), the part where the pimp said he had a "bad outfit", and the part where the girl's mom slaps her for saying a man flew down and got her cat out the tree.
