  • Mysilv was whatever the female equivalent of 'monster' is in the season she won the Triumph. Seemed like she won all her preceding races by at least twenty lengths after being eased down from being 30 in front. Sad she died too young.

  • i think the 4th day has devalued the triumph. i prefered the more competitive 3 day festival

  • @greggles1902 totally agree i used to love having an antepost punt on this race no point anymore since the Fred Winter came along

  • Chatam ran in eight Cheltenham Festivals between 1988 and 1996 (not 1992). Won the Cathcart and was placed in the Sun Alliance Chase and Ritz Club (the latter as a 12 year old) as well as the Triumph Hurdle. Also won the Hennessy.

Pragada ran at about eight or nine festivals. I believe West Tip ran at nine and Go Ballistic certainly did (would have been ten if 2001 had taken place).

  • Mysilv yes id say she was a good wiiner but Katchit has to be the luckiest ever to complete the Triumph / Champion double he is very slow.

  • I'd add Mysilv and Katchit as class Triumph winners. But the list of those who don't achieve much else is long indeed...

  • Yes Kribensis was one of the few really class hurdlers to win a Triumph Hurdle, even See You Then managed to get beaten in the race. But I think we will see a a better class of winner in future now that the Fred Winter Hurdle is also run at the festival.

  • @tobin2 ...i think we will see weaker winners as the novice races have been diluted by going 4 days

  • that was a dream day for me, 3 doubles and a treble, kribensis, charter party and the horse that won the foxhunters cant remember its name

  • @john131349 Certain Light won the foxhunters.

  • Oh so Risky was a decent animal Eddie. And Well Chief was a very good runner up!

  • @MrBungers Yes Well Chief certainly was a good runner up as was Chatam but Pollardstown in 1979 was chased home by no less than Celtic Ryde and Badsworth Boy both very smart performers. Oh So Risky for me had talent bad i dont think he ever got over being gelded.
