@hotmjj4 Because there is a CULTURAL identification. El was raised in the inner city of Detroit, so his EXPERIENCE is the Black experience. He was raised in the Black church and the white world here in the USA will never see him as a white man, no matter how light his skin is. In this country there has always been the one drop rule. He has had the Black experience in the USA. But African American culture plays a big part with El's identity and African American culture differs greatly in the USA

@hotmjj4 White is a recessive gene, brown eyes, brown hair, black skin is dominant. That's science, white genes are recessive. I have plenty of white genes too, culturally I ID with Black and will never be seen as remotely white.

@HaliB75 I don't know what all u r mixed with or what u r ,but I know that two african american parents can come out with a white child. By society the child would be looked at as one category. I understand that they don't care if u are black and white or just black because thats how thats just how people think. You might have had a black experience and be white ,but no one is going to start calling them black. Also the mothers gene can be dominant no matter what race she is.

@hotmjj4 No, two African American parents can not come out with a white child. My grandmother looked white, both of her parents had black on their birth certificate and Black was on hers as well. No matter how light skinned a person comes out they are still black. I have cousins with blonde curly hair and blue green eyes and their birth certificate says Black and they identify as Black and have no desire to be white. It is not their culture to be white Americans. Skin color does'nt define race.

@HaliB75 No, I don't mean actually white I mean they can come out with a child that looks completely white because that's what they picked out of the gene pool from a white ancestor. Yes they might identify as black but they are still both black and white. So far we are getting nowhere so can we just agree to disagree?

@HaliB75 Believe it or not, two Black parents can come out with a White child! I saw it on YouTube. I forgot what was the caption, but there was a Black woman who actually had a white child and they had to give her husband ( a Black man) a paternity test to make sure that he was the father. The baby either went back far into the gene pool or had mutated genes from both parents. Very interesting, look it up!

My grandmother was the same way, white as a ghost and negro was on her birth certificate. You are not telling me something that I have not seen in my own family. No matter how light or white, they are still Black. Good day.

@hotmjj4 Black always dominates genetically over white. Mariah Carey is a Black woman with an Irish mother. Yes she is bi racial but she identifies with Black and there is no confusion there for me because I have family members that look like her. Black people have never been historically categorized based on skin color. You can be as light as Mariah and I knew she was Black before she said ANYTHING about it back in 1990.

The Debarges are the best looking family that I've ever seen...The racism they suffered in school and elsewhere was stupid...Mixed people are the most beautiful in my opinion, and people like the Debarges and Halle Berry prove that...The Debarges are beautiful people, inside and out...They had a lot of problems because of their dad, but they still achieved great success, at least for awhile...El is more handsome than MJ and a better singer than Prince...I hope he'll reach gain lots more success.

@fishandfestival Obviously you haven't seen all "mixed" people. lol There are beautiful people in all colors and nationalities. Duh you would pick two of the most attractive people in the world (point blank) as a foundation for your argument. I've seen many mixed people who are not nearly what the world would consider to be beautiful.

I know El Debarge is mixed, duh! That's so clear, Hell they state it in the clip. If I missed that I would have to be stupid. And no I'm not about starting drama. @MrRyanbernard Actually Prince is multi-cultural. His parents are considered black but are of mixed race. They're from Louisana and are mixed with american indian,french, italian and of course black. Purple Rain only had some parts of his true life most of it is just a movie. Prince didnt want to be put under any label he just wanted everyone to like his music. Not because he was black or white but just because he is truly a talented musician.
