Go Gators! I'm going to try FFXIV. I was a fan of FFXI. Bought the game the day it hit the store shelves. And after playing every FF title except 13, I have to give it a try. Been holding back though. With all the talk of the awesome graphics, I want a machine that will do it justice. Soon I will have that machine, then I will get FFXIV.

Good review! Even with the draw backs you mentioned, it still seems worth a try. Like, what game don't have issues. FFXI had them. Still loved it.

The main thing i was worryed about was lvling in ff 11 it was hard to solo by yourself you had to join a team, which I never liked all that well, and getting spells was another pain in the bum, you had to buy them and the prices was out of control as well as trying to get gil.

SE needs to contact you and give you a job. I was bored and scanning YouTube for various things and came across a large number of FF14 bashing videos. Eventually I stumbled across yours, and even those I was already a bitter cynic from the other flaming reviews, you actually had me considering purchasing this game due to your impassioned review of its crafting and character development system. The Market ward system sounds like a shopping mall, where every store is unlabled, and every item is inside an identical marked box to every other item, and the only way to find it, is literally search every store, and then open every box to find what you want or need to buy.....STUPID, but trust Square-Enix to confuse the hell out of their players.

When I tried Final fantasy 11 back in august, I was not terribly impressed. As a whole, I found the whole experience to be very confusing, and annoyed with the controls.

Is Final Fantasy 14 not so intimidating as 11? Because I honestly would love to give the game a chance. I've played, and loved World of Warcraft, and I want to be able to say the same for Final Fantasy 14 as well.

Oh and if it helps, this is gonna be for PC if I get it.

@mewsuaykat Obviously the game will change in a positive way, Square Enix can't fail a game so epically also for their pocket interest. Of course this game isn't the worst ever, but it really sucks in the present, no doubt about it. Old 5 races, a few horrible classes, slow and bad gameplay, I was really disappointed playing it at the release, after updating the PC only to play it. Sadly Age of Conan was way better for its gameplay but people never gave it new chances after the first flaws ...

I really like the retainer system it adds for a greater sense of realism, but some kind of ward search function would be nice, ive been playing wow for 6 years and its getting ruined with each expansion which is why I considered trying ffxiv ( the biased reviews where mostly down to its radical difference id say) I ended up enjoying the relaxed gameplay so much but I do admit there are alot of things that need work. I hear the UI is server verified so the faster you internet speed the less time

A lot of the positive aspects you've mentioned are similar aspects of Mabinogi; another MMO. Mabinogi has been doing this for quite some time: Static skill leveling, a plethora of animations that correspond to different actions, a deep-level of story-based animations. I don't think it'd compare in the graphics department, but that's about all.

Thank you for a realistic, mostly unbiased, and thoughtful review, this was exactly what I was looking for. Though I think WoW has a better model for Daily Quests over Levequests. Even with good rewards, unless I play a dozen other games a week, it just seem inadequate considering most can only handle one MMO at a time. You could scale back rewards and do 24 hours and still get the same, if not better results probably. I will probably try the game, but won't keep it, if the issues at this many.
