There is a profound difference between a smaller government and weak oversight. Each time the problem of over-hedged mortgage-backed securities was brought up, the old guard neo-con secretaries and department heads balked at doing anything in favor of businesses that saw only short-term profitability.

There still is resistance to oversight from those same short sighted businesses. It certainly worked out OK for them last time.

Barney Frank is part of the problem. He is chairmen of the House Financial Services Committee so where was his oversight of this looming problem, which was started by the Clinton administration. Isn't it ironic that since the Dems took control of Congress the economy has tanked? We had 52 straight months of economic growth after Pres. Bush enacted tax cuts for all taxpayers. You think it's bad now? If Obama gets in, unemployment is sure to hit double digits again, like in the Carter days.

There's no oversight to be done if there is no regulation. McCain and a core of Republicans have been pushing DEregulation for years and it's the DEregulation that allowed the wild freedom for these companies to do whatever they way.

And where do you live?

Because if you've had 52 straight months of economic growth where you live, maybe I should move there, because the last time I saw economic growth in America was in 2000.
