Love it! I wish there were more funny movies like this one instead of the "new kinds of fun". Very original and very nicely played by the fire brigade!
Don't know when I've laughed so hard. And it's no small undertaking, marvelously executed in every aspect....except for one thing, and maybe it's just my opinion, but it would be much funnier without the hideous laugh track. Seems to be a British thing, like with Mr. Bean, overlaid automated, invariant guffawing, really distracting. Otherwise, with or without the audio "sweetening," it is a riot.
@MTondeleo Does anybody know wtf SPAM is? Its sending unsolicited stuff for selling something. Somebodys pissed off because this comment putsdown British laugh machines.
I come back at least once a week to get a great belly laugh (or at least a smile). Great job boys. Hope ya had as much fun making it as I do watching it.
Brilliant! First saw this on Foxtel (UK TV). There should be another one of this type called "Tankety-tank". Tried searching the Hampstead Fire Brigade site, but it wasn't in their collection of fire service demo vids. Start searching, folks!
This was Basingstoke Fire Station around (i think ) 1980 to go in the carnival. It ws shown on Thats Life with Esther Ransom. The following year Basingstoke Fire Station entered the carnival with The Desert Prats, also shown on That's Life! My Dad is one of the fireman in the clip!
This is so funny! I tried to find the one you have mentioned, too, but with no luck. I actually could not even find their website, there are so many to choose from...
My mum and Dad are in this video, my dad is still a fireman at Basingstoke Fire Station where some of it was filmed. My mum is the woman who shoves her face in the cream cake at the picnic. I think somewhere we have a copy of 'Desert Prats' so will try and dig it out. I was about 2 when it was filmed and am in the crowd cheering scene. It was filmed for That's Life with Esther Ranzen in 1984
Very good! this film is doing the rounds as a generic email around the world - just saw it and loved it!
It was bugging the hell out of me which TV show it was from - knew i'd find the answer here!! should have known it was That's Life! They use to show stuff like this all the time. I first thought it was from the The Two Ronnies or a Saturday Night ITV programme.
it was wonderful to see and brought me back to a more peaceful time .
well done to you and your dad for being part of it!
Very amusing! British humour at its best :) Just out of curiosity, why did the Basingstoke Fire Brigade film at the Hampshire Fire Brigade's HQ?? Good show from all involved, exciting to see some people who were directly involved too :)
Yes it was the Basingstoke Fire Brigade and my dad was the one who invented the planes (he's the one with the black tash!!?) I am also in the video, i'm the little girl at the picnic! Oh how it brings back many memories!! Yes it was on That's Life.
It was way back in 1984, I was only 7....bless! Yeah it was a lot of fun. They did the main sequence at Lasham airport and the the rest at Basingstoke fire station. The following year for the carnival, they made some tanks and called themselves the Desert Prats, not sure what happened to the video for that though!?
Considering what these guys do for a living, thank God they had nothing better to do than make this video. It's fun watching them have fun making it :)
I'm just glad those pilots got out of those plans safely!

This was shown on That's Life in the 1980s. These are guys who risk their lives as part of their job and it's good to see them having a laugh.
