oh i remember that glitch me and some guys in my clan would do it on the map where the ship that looks like the eifel tower is and we would do that to the top of the map with energy swords and then we wehre walking on nothing all the way to the eifel tower ship!(it took like 2 hours)

Or you could use telaporters, run 300% faster and 50% gravity and jump. And if u use it online how are you going to get a person to do that with you killing in a matter of 10 seconds? but still good Video:).

when you melee then reload, it cancels out the effect of the melee, like in halo 2, the sword launch. press the right trigger then x right after and it should cancel out

Actually the butterfly in Halo 3 is different to the one in Halo 2, and this isn't the Butterfly....

no becuase you have to be enemies, its because he meleeing, and if you melee at an enemy while close enough, you fly that extra couple of feet towards them. what he is doing is meleeing then canceling by reloading then meleeing again, etc etc, and every time he lunges forward he propels the top guy up.

in short, no, it cannot be done in campaign.
