Yeah, I finally got a copy. Indeed, this film transcends mere watching and does become a truly sensory experience. It kept me sane in Japan, or perhaps it drove me mad. Either way, it's still the greatest piece of animation ever produced. I was recently in Montreal, and it was playing right on TV!

This is by far and away the best animated film of all time!  It gets alot of play in cool theaters but it is underated by the general public to say the least. I must have fallen asleep to this movie a hundred times, its weirdness is so relaxing and the music is beautiful and hypnotic like a dream a kid from the 70s like myself would've had...

I agree completely. Most would either say "good" or "bad" movie. I don't think it's a "good" movie, I just think it's a one-of-a-kind journey. I agree with your opinion that it is an ambient experience. I've got it on DVD.

Fantastic Planet is a public domain film. You can post your own copy of the film print if you own one. Posting someones Video release off of DVD is not legal. Posting your own video from the film print is OKand legal in the USA. Many PD films are OK to post on YouTube. Do a online search for Public Domain titles. That is how some many movies are on DVD for $1 or less because they are in the PD for Free use by the public.

I must've watched FP 300 times during my yr. in Japan. I found it in a bargain bin for 5000yen, less than 5 bux. I just gave it away when I left, thinking I could easily het another back in the US. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! The best animated movie ever hands down nothing will EVER be done to even come close! This was the pinnacle!
