I thought a 360-degree field of view was essential for dogfight. If i recall well that high visibility canopy was one of the main advantages on the P-51 over the P-40 back in ww2. that's why it is somewhat confusing to see it is not present here on the F-35 after being so well implemented on aircraft such as the F16 (well renowned for offering the pilot a very wide FOV), as well as on F-22 Raptor and many others.
@innersilencedotcom Yes but do you understand that back in WW2 they didn't have high-visibility radars and computers that can pick up a fly a few miles away(figure of speech). The F-22 and F-35 have radars on the front and back so when they can't see behind themselves, these radars pick up EVERYTHING.
what's wrong with having some countries help in developing this air craft>??? even the russians had india in developing some aircraft> so cut the crap out of who made this plane fellas because those countries are all Nato forces.
@romz1988 I'm with you! These birds aint cheap. The budget for over 2,000 planes is like 300 billion plus.As long as our allies are helping with the tab.I was in the Air Force for 20 years.I worked on the General Dynamic's F-111D for four years.I thought that bird was awesome, the F-35 is way better! You can't put a price on defending our freedom!!
This is a joint aircraft and marines is the only one will have vertical take off and landing capabilities. Navy will have arresting hook and the Air Force wil have regular landing gear. I want to let everydoby that all Nato will have this aircraft in the future specially the British and Canada.
@cobra2424 You are completely mistake, the US still intends to purchase over 2,000 of these craft, what you are referring to is the United States opted not to purchase one of the specific engine types out of the three, saving roughly half a billion dollars.
The United States Airforce still intends to completely replace their fleet with these planes by 2025, and will be the largest military in the world by a paramount amount to fly these planes.
@hamoan66boi It's jointly developed plane. British BAE and American Lockheed are the main designers/developers. In addition to that, whole number of other countries made contributions to it. So, saying that "Hahaha USA made these" is BS.
@OnlyLifeMatters United States did not made the plane in his totality, countries like Canada, United Kingdom etc.. they all made big contribution to the plane. But if we are really talk, in reality the one that is flying it who is it? American pilots, and the other country would be Israel, as an agreement between the two countries.
@hermesdavid1 Royal Air Force, USAF, Israeli Air Force, Royal Norwegian Air Force, Royal Danish Air Force are to be some of the future operators. Maybe JMSDF will also buy some of them for their Hyuga and 22DDH carriers.
@OnlyLifeMatters its not BS....this company is 100% American the other countries contributed their money which was greatly needed and without them this project would be dead. however the brains and science behind the plane is all American
@konischev Why do I have to provide you with evidence? Be a big boy, and go search, for example, Wikipedia for F35. It will include details about those who participated, and their contributions. See BAE Systems for the British.
@GaryB170 In case you havent read up on it, there are multiple countries investing funding and technology. Britain is one of the main ones investing in it, money and technology too. Its not the USA making them and then supplying them to their allies, its a few countries getting together, sharing technology and making an aircraft. So dont be big headed claiming the USA is making them.
@TheLahness Like the description states this is the largest military acquisition program in history, making it extremely expensive. These planes are designed, and will be produced in the United States, the vast majority of funds are coming from the US government. Britain has already canceled there order due to delays.
@landonheid Britain hasn't cancelled their orders, a government party has just stated that they are considering lower the order from 138 to "some unspecified amount". They are also considering buying F-35C's instead of some F-35B's.
@TheLahness United States did not made the plane in his totality, countries like Canada, United Kingdom etc.. they all made big contribution to the plane. But if we are really talk, in reality the one that is flying it who is it? American pilots, and the other country would be Israel, as an agreement between the two countries.
@X9000BulletsX i bet a testicle you wont be. not only is becoming a pilots less likely then going navy SEAL or SF piloting an aircraft this expensive and advanced is far less likely. you could probably become a pro basketball player before you fly this..
@BaneOfFreeSpeech Well im talking about the Royal Air Force in Britain. I don't know it will be the same in America. But by the time these get here ill be finished in University and ready to start learning. And its most likely they'll train me to fly one of these since it has alot of new feature older pilots aren't skilled in. It would be better to train me now than later.
@BaneOfFreeSpeech Sorry my bad. Its the Royal Navy, dunno why i said Air Force, must have been thinking about them. Anyway the Royal Navy is getting a whole new squadron of F35's for the Queen Elizabeth Class Super carrier.
@tomjohnson1974 At least the F-22 seemed very affective in air to air and had some long range surgical strikes capability, even though the price per unit (flyaway+development+expected maintenance cost) was insane, anyway i do think the F-35 will sell big, especially its VTOL variant for obvious reasons, but no matter how hard LM tries it will suffer from similar flaws as the F-117.
@tomjohnson1974 who cares what the cost is as long as it is the best, during war you will wish that you spent the extra dollars on the best. Military hardware should not be based on costs but on reliability. If the F-22 is the best and the U.S. can't really afford to manufacture it, then they need to sell it to our allies.
That's the best jet fighter in the world today! I am Chinese n I love the F35.
