if they're about half the weight of an MRE, why not eat more than one per day? I realize they're about 2,900 calories per ration, but you know those guys are burning way more than that per day. Plus think about how empty your belly will be 12 hours after eating that tiny thing. Who wants to fight on an empty stomach?
