I have a thaistuki dokuji nami katana that i have, its one of the best for everything its super sharp and no cheapie its of heirloom quality and is completley functional
@jalobeaulieu1 WELL DAYYUM. my collection will be of that quality when im older. i cant make that kind of money atm lol, would love to have swords like that in the future.
@jalobeaulieu1 no lol, its a wall piece. it has little to no practical use. spend your 80 dollars on a good sword. preferable musashi, musashi makes high quality cheap swords. check treuswords website for musashi swords. if you want a good usable odashi your looking at a 160+ dollar sword.
80 dollars, clay tempered not water quenched like cheap swords,55 HRC is really nice, 1060 blade perfect. you can do HEAVY cutting with this blade, well beyond tamashigiri mats. musashi makes the best swords for a low budget buyer.
by the way the "pegs" or mekugi are usually and indicator of an actual weapon, this thing is fake, as are you fake, please do not shame the art like so many of these other posters who do not know the art
@HELLZONE7745 It's a good way to damage your sword if you hit too hard, that's all I'm saying. You could get a leg of lamb and set up - cutting through flesh and bone is a good way to test it.
basically the same thing, as i believe the odachi was used on horse back and the nodachi was used on foot to take down the cavalry. they are the pretty much the same, no real differences. so it doesn't matter which he calls it:)
@HELLZONE7745 The nodachi had a much longer tsuka than the odachi, the odachi had a shorter tsuka with a long blade, other than that basically same thing for different techniques.
@KitsuneKun8 the tang goes 10 inches into the handle .. . thats decent, but no peggs so theres just glue holding it in. i could drill and put peggs in but that would be a pain..
impressive. i own a ryanswords nodachi its the most ungoldy sharp sword ive ever seen. crazy sharp. and a monster to wield. it has a smaller handle than yours, which i like cuz its less like a polearm and more like a sword.
Im only 19 but i have been working for 6 years

Why are you using a sword against wood? It was never designed for that purpose so testing its quality in this way is meaningless.

from what I heard, odachi (great sword) were ceremonial swords and nodachi (field sword) were used for anti-cavalry field combat
chungga94 1 year ago
@chungga94 in truth, neither were actually used much, and nodachi were often used as offerings to dieties.

hey friends!
now i think what to buy. the sword from this video. or nodachi from ryanswords.
That blade seems good. I want big one.
But enough it sharp or not? HELLZONE i saw your vid with bottle cutting. Its seems to go nice.
cosm2os 1 year ago
@cosm2os
the factory edge is pretty sharp, culd use a little sharpening though.
the sharpness of a blade can be fixed easily . .. the quality of the blade cannot.
you want to buy swords with good quality not sharpness . . because you can fix sharpness in 20minutes or less.
HELLZONE7745 1 year ago
Hahaha, I stand corrected.
