Being institutionalized for 5 days, this movie hits the nail on the fucking head. I was watching it with friends, (who have NOT been in the same situation) and I laughed at a certain part where an orderly checks on the kids. Something about his false mannerisms was just so damn SPOT ON! Well, they did not laugh. I realized that we were watching 2 different movies.
Saw this sometime during the past year on either the Sundance or the Independent Film Channel, and it haunted me. Although I forgot the name, after a bit of pointing and clicking I've discovered its title and plan to get a DVD. As folks say, films like this never appear at the local multiplexes (the only local one closed six months ago!), but show from time-to-time on the above channels. You need to be searching for films like this--or just be lucky enough to see 'em.
this was a really good movie. It seemed "natural" you can say. They never wore actual make up to hide their acne or any of their flaws (things that viewers would point out) overall i give this movie a 12/10. That doesnt make sense but thats how good this movie is.
I'd like to know where they got the inspiration for this movie and the characters because for once it's an accurate depiction of what it's like to battle your mind.
Love this move but im still trying to figure out this song in the movie that start playing as lyle was walking back to the the asylum/ end credits n i also heard it playing on this trailer... Soo someone?? Anyone no this song? Let me no asap
@xxdarkmusicloverxx Haha true. And I can’t remember if I cried or not (I’ve seen this movie many times) but after Sara and Chad’s debate about “Wheatfield with Crows” I got a tattoo of a crow flying away. :)
Indie films are so amazing because they really show that you dont need a giant production crew, great visual effects, and lots of money to make a spectacular film. You just need great people, and you will makes a great film so that great people can watch it and feel extremely great afterward.
I got a little excited with great, but you smart people know what I'm saying.
I love forward to watching this, right now. It'll be a great time.
this is a wonderful movie,it's amazing how movies like this don't get what they truly deserve...the whole movie just makes you think about everything...for me it brought up a lot of things...
I feel so dumb for not knowing about this film, but then again I just fell in love with JGL work after 500 Days and havent seen much of his back catalog. Its cool to see that Zooey was in this one too!
Kids today are fucked up. I mean sure it's part of the entire growing up thing but sometimes it feels like nowadays kids are completely lost. I blame society. Society is poisoning our future generations. The movie was great though. Don Cheadle is always such a bad ass.
This is a damn fine film. Obviously influenced heavily by Cookoos Nest, but still a solid indy feature in it's own right. Joseph Levitt's a revelation and Don Cheadle is obviously brilliant. I think it's interesting in the sense that it's not overly preachy or sentimental, although there is a bleak sense about it. Fantastic for posting this.
well alot of indies could be popular but they usually dont promote them selves since they have to pay of actors and themselves. But indies are sometimes very popular,...in other countries not so much in america
All the good movies are Indie films. It frustrates me, because the best ones out there never become popular. Movies like this actually have meaning to them. They speak to people. But instead of watching these movies, people want to watch ignorant shit. It's seriously sad.
I get really tore up about this type of thing, lol. I'm kind of a nerd :P
@blah0206 I wouldn't agree that ALL the good films are indie films, but I do see where you are coming from. Independent and self financed films do not have an obligation to cater to the masses, but rather a specific audience. As a result, they are more daring and there is a more personal feel to them. But there are big budget studio flicks that can speak to people too. Blade Runner, Inception, Nolan's batman films, Ang Lee's Hulk, etc.
@blah0206 No I totally understand what you mean. I have a buddy of mine who always asks me what films im looking forward to, when I give him my answers he usually replies with "wow I have never heard of any of those". To which I hit him back with "Yeah because all the great films only hit indie theaters and have no marketing...its a damn shame"
@Crim122 it really is. the most popular movies are good, but they're all so cliche. they all have the same plots, and the same happy endings that no one can relate to. indie films are more realistic and more raw. they touch people on a totally different level, and desperately need more recognition.
@blah0206 I know exactly what you mean, e.g rialto films most people don't like rialto even though their films are much more real but yet they love shallow blockbuster movies. there's just no deepness in blockbusters.
Check my channel for a nice relaxing song from the soundtrack of this brilliant movie.
I think all the actors are great, love the screenplay from Michael Bacall (plays Chad as well), and the Digital video makes it all the more gritty and real. Love it.
@bonjourangelique I was so excited when 500 Days of Summer came out just because they were together in a movie again....Everyone I knew couldn't understand my excitement since they had never seen Manic.
