The automatic fire sprinkler activated with 15 seconds of the fire starting due to an electrical short. . What this video shows is the sucess of fire sprinklers. Damage was minimal, no one was injured, they were closed for a very short time. This an excellent demonstration of how an automatic fire sprinker works and how it protected employees and kept damage to a very minimal.
It appears Somebody might have tripped the Fire Alarm to set off the sprinklers? Although in this situation a Fire Extinguisher could have put that out and saved water damage.
@astanford09 Nope, sprinklers are not activated by fire alarm pull stations. Sprinklers are only activated when their immediate area reaches a certain temperature via fusable link. A fire extinguisher would have been great, except that there was no one present at the time to operate it...
Are those fire sprinklers set off just where the fire is located or the whole store? I'd imagine the water would do more damage now then the small fire, which could have easily been extinguished.
Only when the heat is raised to the designated temperature usually 165 degrees, so in this case just one head was activated. Once the head activated, it cooled the room and the other heads did not open. Think of it like standing at a fireplace. To get warm, you must stand next to the fireplace, across the room less heat. What you see on TV or in the movies does not happen.
I'm not a fire expert, but I think those employees were really in danger and didn't realize it.
