Thank you for uploading this!!!! Our school will be playing this and this video really helped me get the idea of how it'll look like. Man i can't think of which character to audition for....
thank you so much for uploadiing all of this it is now my new favourite film/musical hahah and it helps when i do it in drama when i go bck to school hehee thanks again its an incredible show:)
@StoryMing It was never explained what brought her back but for whatever can be assumed from everything, she most likely found out or realized that she wouldn't be as free to do what she wanted or be happy with the general since he would control her too much.
anothing thing I've thought may of happened was all the memories she had remembered though the whole thing made her realize she still loved Fred and he still loved her so she knew she couldn't be happier with any man except for Fred.
fantastic performance!! god, the movie was terrible!! ha, this production & these actors restored my faith in the show. thanks soooo much for uploading it all, I'm in love with rachel york now, haha. =)
@andersbiro ok, this was 5 months ago, I've since watched the 50's movie again, and realized it was good, and had a lot of great performances. but overall, I prefer this production's performances, especially Rachel York's versions of "so in love" & "I hate men".
Yes, thank you so much! I will hopefully be doing this show in the upcoming year, and it's definitely helpful to have a stage production as a resource!
Thanks SOOO much for uploading this. We just found out that we're going to do this play at my high school. Although I would love to be Fred, all of these characters are hilarious.
OH thank you so much for all those uploads!! Brent Barrett just stole my heart and Rachel York was mesmerising as Lilli. Thank you thank you thank you XXX

Excellent production but the last song of Kiss Me Kate will always be offensive. I loved, "Too Darn Hot," and "Brush up Your Shakespeare." Those were awesomely done.
you need to remember that the actual play of "taming of the shrew" was written by shakespeare and times were extremely different back then. Cole Porter was just following the plot of the story. there is nothing offensive about this song whatsoever!
When we did it, we originally had choreographed something similar to this, where we ran in circles. I missed the rehearsal where we learned it, but apparently not one could get it right, so they changed it to the gangsters shooting off their guns and everyone screaming and running offstage.
People always criticize the end of the Shakespeare's play as being anti-feminist, but I think its up for interpretation. In the context of this show, I don't think that Lilli is going to 'submit' to Fred, so much as they will 'submit' to each other--they both have their faults, certainly. I love the romance in this show...i kinda wish Fred and Lilli got their own scene at the end, though.
It totally depends on the direction. The director should stress the difference between the piece within the piece and the love story between Lilli and Fred. It is very well done in the old film version (better than in this one, imho). I recently saw a student production where this difference was not stressed at all and that left a bitter sexist aftertaste.
There has always been skepticism about the ending of taming of the shrew. I personally think that Kate was just putting on an act, she never actually became "tame".
Definitely, I agree. In my opinion, Kate was making fun of Petruchio at the end and putting on an act. But in the context of Kiss Me Kate, it works so Lilli is apologizing to Fred.
this show is crazy good. i'm in the pit at my school where we're putting this on, but the music is hard! I'm having fun though, cant wait for the opening day!
This song always pissed me off when I was in this show. It was hard to keep character, but I managed it. I think it is a beautiful song, however I want to gag each time I hear the lyrics.
I guess I'm a feminist.
Thank you very much for refreshing my memory of all of the good things that happened during this play. :)
I Am In My School Production Of Kiss Me Kate And I Am Loving Every Second! Our Kate Gives Everyone Shivers Down Our Spines When She Sings This! Shes Amazing! One Show Left =[ Got To Make It A Good One! =D xxxx
I've listened to the soundtrack again and again. But this is the first time I've watched the "live" show. A thousand thanks! for putting the 22 episodes up!!
I have this on DVD I must have watched it 50 times (my children think I'm crazy) Rachel York is the most talented actress on Broadway, and everyone who has met her says she is the most genuine too! And I missed this performance - Rachel pls come back to the UK!
Oh my god! So cute!

This had to be after 1999. Neither were as good a Brian Stokes Mitchell and Marin Mazzie. York was too bitchy and totally unlikeable.

Honestly, this whole musical just pissed me off.
I tried really hard to like it, but I hate the characters! All the men are terrible to women :(
I know I'll probably get a ton of thumbs downs for this...

But all the actors are fantastic. Especially Rachel York! Amazing voice, amazing acting.
But it's still creepy how Fred looks like my ex boyfriend's dad. I can't get over that....
broadwaylove52 3 years ago 7
they are just following the plot of taming of the shrew
its just how Shakespeare wrote it
dln9193 2 years ago
The wink at the end of the song came from the film version of Shrew in the 1930s.
The way I've always interpret is, Kate and Petruchio were working together to con the crowd in this little "game."

Sigh. Well, she did wink at us. I hope she's never completely tamed (though I am glad she stopped shrieking).

This song is actually word for word Katherine's final monologue in the play.
Even when Shakespeare wrote it, people thought her complete brainwashing was terrible.
