Your technique is not that bad but what bothers me more is that you seem to play it without feelings. This place is to me an invitation to poetry and free flying soul. I would have exagerated the speed and volume variations, made more place for silences and sustained notes at end of phrases. Then I think you'd be able to emote your audience.

i'm playing this song as a solo in a month and you are so much better! just only tongue the notes that are supposed to be tongued... my clarinet teacher has been killing me for doing that!
Again I'm late with comments. Like nycounterpoint said the cadenza was rushed a bit to me. You have great technique, but you can go very far musically too. You play it straight great don't get me wrong, but you need to add more movement. It sounds somewhat disconnected. Try to think of the fingers "connecting more" to make a smooth fluid motion. I hear you have technique down with no problem (last note was out of tune, but you can fix that I'm sure)

I highly recommend listening to it.
I think that overall this performance could use a lot more dynamic contrast and general expression. Also, I would try a different fingering for that high G at the end to make it less sharp. Are you familiar with the "Double Bird" fingering? Just finger the third-line Eb lift both middle fingers. This fingering is usually much more in tune...just a suggestion. Again, very nice playing though
wow you are amazing?what type of clarinet do you use?how long have you been playin?im a sophmore in high school..and iv been playing since i was in fifth grade..im first chair but i sound like crap compared to you.ha..so can you give me any tips?
I tryet too , for me , but is not the same sound . Rabaud know's why he wrote for sib clarinet! Maybe it is better to choose a bass clarinet piece! I think that the sound it 's more important than the virtuosity! but you can try and i wish you good luck!
I think you could stand to take more time in the beginning cadenza section. It feels a little rushed to me. The last few sections made me feel like getting my clarinet out and playing a bit, though - nice! I remember playing this piece for a jury a few years ago and it went beautifully until the very end... I lost the last note. :P

What do you mean the tempo is wrong? It's originally sixteenth = 62. This guy is playing this correctly, he just needs to keep the tempo steady.
randomisnotgood 2 years ago
He's not wrong... he's maintaining the feel of the original piece while adding his own flavor of tempo to the music because it's a solo

It probably either just a different edition or a different interpretation. Not all editions are made equally. LoL.

REALLY GREAT JOB on that solo, I play bass clarinet and I was wondering if you know if a jury would appreciate me playing this on Bass.

It's always the last note in a jury that we lose! it is soooo frustrating lol!
