  • I just can't help it .I like everything he does.

  • Well, folks. Rufus may be a singer and songwriter in his own right. So - why then isn´t he sticking to his own stuff and STOP bore us as a Judy Garland wanna be? Don´t get me wrong - nothing against queens! But he´s not even NEAR Judy!

  • And just for the record: This isn't even in the same stratosphere as my favorite RW performance...it's just that I happened to notice all the injustly inaccurate comments about him and felt this need to voice my insignificant opinion. If you think he can't sing watch some of his live but smaller performances like the ones obviously from TV (Dinner at Eight, Go or Go Ahead)...or listen to an album. It may be "studio" but it's still him & still as rich & somber as honey. His voice like a cello.

  • Opinions are always valid, albeit, some may require more tact. So, here's mine: Rufus Wainwright is an incredibly gifted songwriter & singer & there are very few artists, especially now, that can write like him. "Want One" was truly an undeniably gorgeous album. And it makes me kind of sad that there are people who get so lost in the delivery that they lose/miss the point. Criticizing Rufus' singing is like judging the brush strokes of Van Gogh. Step back & listen & you'll hear the masterpiece.

  • I just dont get him. He really cant sing.

  • YUCK! He can't even sing on pitch! Isn't singing supposed to start with that, and then everything else follows? Also, I'm amazed that NO ONE has mentioned that Rufus's vocal sound is a dead-on rip-off of Peter Allen, Liza MInelli's (Judy's daughter) first husband. Compare the two, and you'll hear it. For real.

  • Hmmm... Well... I was just looking to see if there was a date listed for this performance and scrolled down and saw all this garbage posted by some old tired jealous bitch queens. Really, Rufus is hot and talented no matter how someone wants to critique him. He is selling records and selling out concert halls and YOUR not! lol Didn't your mamma ever tell you, "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say nothing at all"? Sheez! Go fabulous Rufus!

  • Iv got the DVD dont care wot u all think i love him and his music..yahhhhhhhhh

  • Get used to it

stop having opinions just becasue you don't like them! What kind of ego mad queen are you?

  • my sister went to his show and explained it to me, and you don't seem to have a grasp on what happened. he played a normal show and for his encore he did judy songs, because he loves her, obviously. he's not trying to ride her coattails to the top or anything... you're weird...

  • HA! Come on guys he is funny as hell. What a guy-- what balls to do that. I like him better the more I see him-- GO RUFUS!

  • pity poor old Liza didnt heed her mother's advice - she's made a career out of being her mother's ghost

  • damn great.

  • grandma music

  • F.O. sonny!

  • He captured the timing and much of the excitement and pleasure Ms Garland received singing to her fans. Garland also flubbed her lyrics, missed some notes and sang when she had a cold. No one cared, cause in her next song she would hit the notes dead on - and that was part of the excitement. The perfect performance does not guarantee the perfect entertainer. Bravo Mr. Wainwright for bring the "live" performances back.

  • I love them both Rufus AND Jim Bailey because they both love Judy

  • hes not doing an impersonation u nana

  • I have just discovered Rufus after being a huge Elton John fan for years and Elt is always going on about Rufus being great etc etc. Downloaded "Poses" and haven't looked back - bought all his albums in one month and didn't realise what a multi-talented and divere artiste he is. I love Judy as well and this is a touching tribute - RW is not an impressionist he is a performer who loves Judy. Entertaining with a huge "E"!!!

  • I saw this at the Hollywood Bowl as well and, people, doing a tribute to Judy Garland was the whole point. Jim Bailey?! You're kidding, right? We're not talking about female impersonation here. This was one gay man's tribute to a woman many gay men love--and a tribute to having the balls to being the kind of "uber-fag" proud enough to love music that's dismissed by idiots who think Simon Cowell is the living end.

  • He's so cute!

  • He performed in front of a sold out HOLLYWOOD BOWL last night, that should tell you complaining ninnies something of what people thought of Rufus. He was amazing. not only that but Lorna Luft came out and did some duets, praised him for keeping her mom's legacy alive, and Debbie Reynolds was there too. Rufus is one of the most talented singers today. He did a wonderful job

  • if he went on x factor he would not get past the first audition, i'd love to hear what simon cowell would say, i'm sure it would end with the word crap.

i can't sing but i know when someones off key and he knows how to hit the bum notes

  • how can you..... its quite obvious that you are used to listening to singers that have their voices played with in a studio. some people wouldnt know talent if it slapped them in the face.

rufus wainwright has the best technically amazing voice i have ever heard.... you really must listen to him properly without the cotton wool in your ears

  • You must have bumped your head, girlfriend. Not only does Rufus drone through his sinuses, Miss Thing can barely stay on pitch. I'm a record producer, and, trust me, this man does NOT have "the best technically amazing voice..." He's a pale, off-pitch imitation of the fabulous singer/songwriter Peter Allen, Liza's first husband. It's always the tone-deaf people, like you, who rave about performers like this.

  • actually, rufus is GOD. u totally cant talk about him like that.

  • Sartist is damn right. Sounds like every other queen i have heard at the gay bar on karoke night

  • its a tribute...calm down...

  • i agree with blanche Jim Bailey can sing this score the way it should be sang.

  • what a load of crap . he can't sing and he's flat as a pancake

a terrible insult selling tickets on the back of Judy

he even looks embarrased at the applause . i rushed home to watch expecting a a least a good soundalike but after the first song i was bored out of my head. Jim Bailey would have been a better act to manage a score like this.

  • he can sing it better than you ever could, I'm sure. I saw this concert last night. he was amazing

  • WHAT A FABULOUS TRIBUTE from an incredible artist to the legendary and greatest performer of the 20th century, the incomparable Judy Garland! Rufus Wainwright is a genius!

  • how dare he.

  • Wait a minute. You're telling me someone tried to recreate Carnegie Hall? Why? For what? That was like a singular moment in entertainment history. Who would dare try to recreate it and for what? Am I misunderstanding? Why would anyone try to recreate anything so revered an amazing? That's just wierd.

  • It's a tribute concert. Judy is his idol and he's an amazing artist. You people need to calm down

  • hes so amazing...

  • He does it as a tribute the way Jim Bailey does.

  • Bailey is better

  • Rufus you have sold me after this performance the man is just talent, are they going to put out This performance on CD? if not why not mucic company, get this in the shops for XMAS OK

  • His own stuff is something else, but with the best will in the world, this wasn't good! It is not about "being" Judy, it is about his own interpretation and whether he is up to that kind of performance. And he's not! Style, he did look great, doesn't compensate for inadequate voice or for lack of acting ability. He was trying to do a bit of a John Barrowman, and it didn't work!

  • I've just watched this on channel4 and omg it was amazing, he's such a natural born performer it's in his blood and I think this show would be known as his moment.

  • He must have dreamt about doing this... He did a good job!

  • Yeah... I'm not really sure what I think about this tribute... it is amazing how well he matches Judy's mannerisms. Whether you like this or not, Rufus is a great songwriter and I love him when he does his stuff.

  • just saw Rufus 2 nights ago in concert... no words to explain how amazing he was!

  • Judy would've loved this. Doesn't matter what I think about his singing. I can only say there is only one Judy. But damn, he's got the right mindset to remind people of Judy's songs. Judy was so good-humored, I bet when this was happening, she cheered for him ;D

  • it is a hoot...dear Judy would have screamed her tits off with mirth...what fun!!!

  • reformed judyism, not the real stuff

  • Jim Bailey does an incredible tribute, he doesn't overdo it. Check it out

  • He's...okay...I guess...Judy was sublime! (And I'm gay, so I'm not being homophobic in not liking Rufus. I think he's just....okay.)

  • think Judy looked down from her cloud and smiled the boys got 'IT' and SHE would have loved it!

  • Jesus, kids, Judy is not God (no matter what some of you queens might think)--there was no sacrilege taking place here. The man is doing an homage to Judy, and a good one at that. What Judy means to gay men is probably far different from what she means to the bitter commenters in this forum. They'll never get it.

  • Judy's star power and pure talent will keep herself in the spotlight FOREVER! She doesn't need Rufus or anyone else's help for that! And yes, I do fault him for ripping off Judy's concert.

  • It's hardly 'ripping off' her concert. It's a tribute - and he pulls it off with considerable style.

  • Not my style, but who can fault anyone for taking Judy's Carnegie Hall concert on tour all over again! And that means everyone will now run out and get the real thing. Rufus RULES for keeping Judy in the spotlight.

  • Why is he down on the stage humping his hips? Does the thought of San Francisco make him want to hump? This is his encore? I find his voice grinding and his movements offensive. Was this a tribute to Judy or a mockery?

  • I am not particularly a fan of Wainwright, so perhaps my opinion is colored. But I didn't like it. It was just too derivative for my taste. I fail to see the point of the exercise.

  • who said he created the arrangements? and why would he even change them?

  • This sucks. Judy had something he lacks.

  • Yes, talent

  • comparing rufus and judy is kind of odd since he's not trying to BE her. obviously he's going to have some elements of judy in his performance, otherwise would it even make sense? you can't dissociate her from the songs, so doing it as faithfully to her seems to be the only way to go. and besides most younger people don't know anything about judy's carnegie concert and rufus felt that he could expose them to her music by performing it. i think he does a great job!

  • Ruf - be a 1st class version of YOURSELF and not a second class version of someone else.

  • wow I wonder where you got that from, moontide...perhaps you should stop peddling Judy Garland quotes as your own.

  • And if for nothing else, give this guy a round of applause for THE BAND ARRANGEMENTS!!! The band is KICKING MAJOR BUTT!!!!!

  • The arrangements are stolen too! They are Garland's original arrangements.... He had nothing to do with their creation.

  • I think everybody is forgetting that the brother is NOT Judy Garland so it is very unfair to expect him to BE Judy Garland. Hell, LIZA isn't even Judy Garland. And what's more is that most of Judy's stage frolic was inspired by Kay Thompson so why get down on this cat for being inspired by Judy the way she was inspired by Kay? Cut the brother some slack. This is a good performance, doesn't have to be a mimic and WHO could successfully mimic Judy Garland anyway????

  • If you buy the double cd of the real concert by Judy herself, you'll never watch this clip again.

  • He's really giving it his best effort, but this clip only makes me sad that I couldn't see Judy live myself. Some classics, especially this legendary concert (I listen to the Judy CD all the time) don't need to be remade. He does as good of a job as he can, but it doesn't even resemble Judy's electrictrifying stage presence, despite his physical gestures and dancing.

  • I love Rufus. He's hilarious.

  • This song was amazing - I'm so glad he decided to do it for a second time at the end of the show!!!

I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but this night was AMAZING for me...

*sigh* I just wish I could see it again, exactly the way it was :) :)

  • The sad part is that he IS trying to be Judy. I am a longtime Garland fan and his steps, gestures and handling of the song are totally mimicking Judy's performances of the same songs. Only difference is that Judy Garland really COULD sing. He sounds like a bad karaoke contest somewhere in Alabama or something. To hear it sung right get "Judy at Carnegie Hall" and listen to the master of this genre.

  • well, i donot belive that he is trying to be Judy Garland.More like to keep her alive in our heart what she ment to use "back in the day" you see now we have it not so hard we still suffer not as much and well kid now a days donot care what she ment to us. so i think it cool that he did that and dose not matter if he "mimicking" her just chille leave him alone

  • He is paying homage to her. It's not like he wants to be the next bloody Judy Garland.

God you all take it so seriously, I am a massive Judy fan,but just because someone else is singing her songs and God Forbid DOING THE SAME GESTURES :O doesn't mean you have to get your knickers all in a twist. If he had played at Carnegie Hall just being himself..well it just wouldn't have been much of a tribute would it?

  • thank you! someone else with a proper sense of what's worth getting upset over

  • YES. I actually feel quite embarrased(sp) by these so called Judy fans.

  • Jeeeeesus, loves, it's only a bit of music. If you're getting upset over it, you're not quite right in the head - rufus did it in tribute, for a laugh. he's not trying to be her.

  • Great big band arrangement.

  • He's most original in his musical philosophy..he lives to make music and is passionate beyond your standard music maker-just genius

  • This beautiful! I adore Rufus.

  • i have to agree....whats the point...and jim bailey is better

  • not sure i understand the point of recreating without imitating. he sounds pretty awful. i'm a bit confused. whats the point?

  • i saw jim bailey at the palladium as judy and another night as barbra

  • SUGAR240682: your say you are not a Wainwright fan - you could have fooled me ! You find his voice vulgar - I think your comments are VULGAR. You are frustrated, you need to have sex soon. Most people adore Rufus, you are just a jealous bitter sugar.

  • I am DISGUSTED that is all I can muster. I am not a particular fan of Judy and not a Wainwright fan either - I just looked this up as a curiousity. I feel like I want to cut my ears off. He's voice is so VULGAR and offensive. Like he's farting out his mouth. I think him and Dido should realise an album together. Poor Judy's family. This is pathetic.

  • you go!

  • I think it was great. He sounds good and he isnt trying to be Judy! He looks great. Wonderful, thanks for this.

  • alright he's not that bad. It's nice how he made his tribute, HE'S FAR AWAY from being as good as Judy. But he still looks like he put on a great show. Three Stars.

  • Alright, im not gonna give a shit anymore. Ya know what i love it! He's is stunning as always, and always will be

  • If You DON'T LIKE IT, than just SHUT THE FUCK UP you VILE worthless ASSHOLES!!! I think you owe Rufus and the video post a PUBLIC APPOLOGY you horrible FUCKING SCUM!!!!

  • Well there's a grown up remark.

  • Awful... just awful. How did he manage to get into the Palladium after the spectacle at Carnegie? :(

  • I admire his doing something I am sure a thousand people wish they had the courage to do! I don't think he was trying to "be judy"...it's about creating a moment...maybe even recapturing a bit of something many people never had a chance to experience. There are so few real all out "showmen" today...I admire his balls!

  • i dont think is that bad. Then again i adore rufus, so i like most of what he does.

  • i agree with liza a disgrace

  • how pathetic he looks stupid trying to be judy garland

  • I checked out clips of this because I like Rufus and had hopes this would be really good. Sadly, it's self-indulgent crap, almost as though Rufus KNOWS he is way out of his league. Positively horrid and deplorable. Judy would have been grateful for the tribute, surely, but she would undoubtedly been disappointed with such ridiculous renditions.

  • i so agree with you why is he trying to imitate her he looks so stupid i think judy must be spinning in her grave

  • and again, if you don't like it JUST IGNORE THE DAMN THING instead of spilling your bitching and whininess into a little white box. I'm sure the poster's intention was to get POSSITIVE feedback

  • I am nearly in tears. This is the worst worst worst tragedy I've ever seen in my entire life. I am crying now. This is an 8th rate version but I guess you can't blame him for anything more than agreeing to do this. It's impossible to recreate the wonderful Judy. Eric

  • This is so awful. He should try and be a first rate version of himself rather than a second rate version of someone else! To anyone who likes this - go buy the double CD of Judy at Carnegie Hall and then let us know what you think of this.

  • Some things are best left alone. Pathetic display!

  • i hate everything about this go home!!

  • Impressive to take on this type of tribute to Judy. He's not bad with these songs. Too bad he destroyed "I'll Build A Stairway To Paradise" in "THE AVIATOR" and on that soundtrack. Totally wrong person to sing that classic number. Awful!!

  • This is great! I love the "Judy-isms" and how he references her performance style without copying it. It's a very nice homage!

  • that's not a very nice way to describe yourself

  • He's delicious.

  • Once would be enough for me.

  • Ahhh yes, I was there this very night. And what a night it was. Loved it.

  • I was there too! It was a once in a lifetime event!

  • Thanks for posting! I was hoping somebody would post this version. I was on the first row and I can confirm the pelvic thrust! You should be able to hear me screaming when I saw that!!

  • Pelvic thrust? *zooms in*

  • yep, he certainly air humps on the ground there! O_O

  • I was there! I was there!!!! I was perfect! He did an ACTUAL pelvic thrust! On the GROUND! It was too good! :D :D :D

    I love him.

Love him love him love him love him!!!

Did I mention that I love him?

  • Who said that boy can't dance? You keep two-step'n it baby- get down.

  • There was plenty of 'jazz hands'! I adore Rufus!!

  • wonderful :) thanks for uploading!

Must have been an amazing night!

  • WOW!! That is an amazing performance, and I am DYING that I will not see one of these performances ever. I will wait breathlessly for the DVD to come out soon!! Rufus! Rufus! Rufus!

  • Fanfreakingtastic!

  • Fabulous!
