You are perhaps looking again at things by race, but it's all about motivation to the student AND dispensing of distractions that take away from the learning. I don't think all cops are jittery. But using the recent Oakland shooting as an example...those cops were responding to a 911 emergency call about a fight on a train. Obviously someone was freaked out enough to call 911. The cops were confronted by drunk, loud people who were verbally assaulting them. Crowds in stopped train were yelling at the cops. Looked like the suspects removed from the train were cooperating. Some sort of struggle involving the victim ensued. I think the cops were jittery

I'm talking about what I've seen and experienced- any kid who is motivated by their parents will likely succeed in great ways. It's no exception. You are perhaps looking again at things by race, but it's all about motivation to the student AND dispensing of distractions that take away from the learning. If you came across elite black kids from Africa, the caribbean, Europe, America, you will find they all excel in normal fashion- not exceptional; same with middle-class in normal mid-class areas

If streetgangs were crushed and the idolization of gangsta rap was suppressed significantly, you'd see less crime, more studying, more inclination to accomplishing as a citizen- most black kids have those goals, but there are a significant minority of them who don't grasp those ideals, and feel content to compel those who do back.

Lets not forget the "single parent family" problem. This is just all too common in the black community. Probably the single most important question of all affecting the development of black children is : "where's dad"? This problem is not confined to blacks, but they have the problem more than any other race. There are studies that seem to indicate that black males have cognitive/behavioral issues leading to this.

single parent problem-> Obama dispels that myth. You're making an excuse. Obama was drilled hard by his mother to study. Same with Condi Rice. Motivate kids to study and keep them away from distractions and they'll end up on the road to success. Again, ignore the 'studies say this and that'.studies have not changed anything because they are mere conjecture. If you're up to it, do some studies about how the brain works and how actually a teens exposure to social conditions shapes them-not color.

Ok - I don't know about Obamas exact situaton. Wasn't he raised mainly by his mothers parents? I thought she handed him off to them at some point. I understand where you are coming from though. And from a policy perspective - thats how this issue should be viewed. But - how do you account for behavioral differences among separate breeds of dogs? Is this just a "nurture" issue having nothing to do with the "nature" side of the equation?

No- Obama said his mother got him up very early in the morning to do his school studies.... what I'm referring to is education and the child being convinced to stay on a path of learning and becoming a citizen. One or 2 parents can do that. single dads can do it too. Just saying 'oh well a dad in the picture solves everything' is no guarantee. What's absolute is making sure a child has that guidance to stay on track. and another thing, alot of other races have single/divorced/split parents.

Yes you see that because quite honestly that's what you want to see. You don't want to see why they are doing what they're doing, why they in particular are doing that, what is their background that makes them feel it appropriate doing that, and what attitudes towards them have they been exposed to based on their color 'inspires' them to do that. It's your choice-see things simplistically and not understand, or try to get into the engine to see how it works.

I don't get the impression you are a "black power" advocate. Not at all. The reason I mention SA is because I have specifc personal knowlege of SA. Many blacks are saying that life was better for them under aparthied. That things have really degraded. BTW - whites are systematically being exterminated by targeted murder in SA. SA= darkest before dawn. Most historic episodes in history have their very good periods preceded by a dark event in which obviously people are distraught and wish to be in complacent times before the darkness. The American Revolution was near to defeat for the Americans before things changed their way. The SA govt's problem seems to me to get rid of the squallor in townships.

The whole concept of race and racism is a social problem not a biological one.If racism was not profitable or made a "decline"in profits then it would be eradicated.The whole reason the apartheid system came to place was to get cheap labour off of blacks,hence the racial divisions.mixed people referring to themselves as "coloured" and referring to blacks as "inferior"(according to yourself)is most likely something that has been cemented into the south african society for decades...

My opinion is just observe the real world you know some men are stupid as hell of whatever race, and some women are geniuses. These studies are useless in conjecturing that men or women are smarter than one another, or brain size represents who is more intelligent. There are other factors why an individual's brain power may not develope as fast as others. Its all individual is my observation. Why go by hypothesis and speculation when you see the actual truth in real life everyday.We all differ.

It is clear that race is a biological reality. Crime labs identify race from a skeleton or just a skull. They identify race from blood, hair, or semen. Black children are born with smaller brains than whites on average (1/4 pound lighter). Is this true? Or is it a lie? Brain size among populations correlates to average overall intelligence. Intelligence correlates to higher standards of living.

Nooooo- Really I encourage you to study how brains develope. It's nothing at all due to race. Exposure to social conditions determine a person's brain developement. The brain size theory is gibberish. Crime relation to repetitive reckless behaviour has more to do with a person's frontal developement of the brain -to put it bluntly. Trust me- do such research and you'll learn realities regarding social impact on a person and how they learn right from wrong in growing.
