@stevefromPA2 Unfortunately, it doesn't have the beloved SLIDE-GLIDE front doors like the GM Fishbowls. They seem to look more like Newer RTS buses. Thats a bad thing.
That's a nice looking bus! I never seen these before. If it's an Eco-Saver, it'll kick RTS ass. I hate the RTS buses 1.)those fumes are killing the air and 2.)the driver has to get up and operate the platform for the wheelchair folks. Does this new bus have a platform the driver operates from his/her dashboard instead of getting up and going to the back door?
Most TAs are buying Orion Buses cause of their price, which is goddamn stupid. Their build quality is starting to become really bad. Mississauga Transit had the first Orion VIIs and they dont like those buses at all. NABI has been getting more orders than Orion. Mississauga is getting 15 Orion VII NG Hybrids, WMATA is staying with New Flyer & NABI buses. The 3rd Generation NG is coming to NYC, new HVAC mount and the hump at the back of the bus is gone
Lots of opinions, pasengers, drivers we all have are favorite buses, that is why a transit system should have a diverse fleet. It also contributes to increasing ridership. People will ride in order to be on their favorite types of buses. A diverse fleet makes a transit system very interesting. The TTC had a very interesting diverse fleet of buses. NYCTA also along with SEPTA. Once these buses come in, oldest TMCS should be transferred to Jackie Gleason depot to run on busiest routes there.
In Brooklyn they can run on the very busy B11, b16, b35, 7th avenue line, 5th avenue line together with Orion 5s, Orion 7 ng buses filling in. Displaced Orion 7, New Flyer NG buses, could run on 3 new routes that could be put in service. Busy Fort Hamilton station has no connecting bus route. Route would start at Lutherin Medical center. Run 2nd ave till 44th and 2nd ave. Run on 44th till 18th ave, 18th ave to Mcdonald, Mcdonald to Foster, Foster to Coney Island. Avenue H to Avenue H station.
Way back Fostersame way, down 45th to 2nd ave. Direct connection with D train Fort Hamilton station both sides. Will take some of the crowd off B11. More beter service serving those neighborhoods Sunset Park, Boro Park, Flatbush, Kinsington. Another route could run up and down 15th ave, between Mcdonald, and 65th street. At Mcdonald ave would run to 18th. 18th to Coney Island ave. Coney Island ave to Newkirk. Newkirk to Newkirk station on the Q line.
3rd route could run on 17th ave from 18th avenue station on the N line to 65th. 65th to 17th ave, 17th ave to Dahill road to Dahill road station on the F line, Avenue F till Coney Island Avenue.

"...should have a diverse fleet...?" This is ridiculous too. Actually, having a common fleet saves money by having common spare parts in stock and bulk. Keep in mind that cities have diverse fleets for reasons other than just "looks". If you need a 30" bus and 2 doors, then you can't purchase a New Flyer--they offer only 1 door on it's 30". Need a 45", then NABI is your only choice. Want Gilligs but you need a 60", then sorry, Gillig doesn't make those. The reasons go on and on....
CTA's NABIs were built to CTA's configurations, which has nothing to do with a NABI product cause CTA wanted their bus to look like a D40LF, which failed and caused the issue with the articulation that everyone has foreseen. It was CTA's fault, not NABIs. NABI's build quality imo is just as good as Orion. Gillig is garbage & ElDorado is just ugh.
Appaarently, Minneapolis doesn't think that Gillig is garbage. They have over 1,000 of them, and continue to buy them. The ONLY reason they went with New Flyer Artics is because Gillig doesn't make them. I don't think that Seattle, Cincinnati, Denver, or Orlando thinks this--they have large Gillig fleets, even though ppl say they're not a true heavy duty bus. That's laughable and certainly untrue. Now Blue Bird Transit buses, that's another story.
Yeah, really. That is laughable. Don't you think Minneapolis auditioned buses from NOVABus, Orion, NF, etc? Yeah, they did, just like other TAs. They go with what they feel works for them. If Gillig makes buses that "aren't great", then why would Minneapolis (and other TAs) buy a horrible bus that will operate in BRUTAL winters and high load factors? Lets be rational. Keep in mind that all makes have their +-.
gone are the days of the slow smokey bus..
