@Sammyjackson1488 Terrible production--a real freak show. Wagner would have been ashamed of this travesty. And curious enough, the German's are the worst offenders.
@windstorm1000 Nonsense. This production went back to the shared subconscious of mankind and its imagery, as the director explained. If you think valkyries should wear bullhorn helmets and gods should look like comedy vikings, then you haven't understood a iota of what Wagner himself wrote about his intentions as well as the psychoanalytical and social implications of his Ring. It's racist people like you who are the worst offenders, demanding that everyone share your petty taste.
@BlueCougar No, I don't think that valkyries need to wear helmets, etc. you are over reacting. I know a LOT more about Wagner than you do, and he would NOT have approved of this heinous production---he was for the folk, he was for the ancient runes, and the gods and goddesses--not business men in drag and sluts on stage (No WAY he envisioned what people are taking it!). Its a freak and so are YOU. And I'm not racist---you know nothing about me so shut up.
@windstorm1000 Saying that Wagner would not have approved or that directors need to do what the composer intended is usually a smokescreen in which to hide your own prejudices. To put it bluntly, who cares what Wagner intended! Music and art always escapes the artist! Opera is not a settled medium, and it shouldn't be. I, for one, loved this different take on the Ring. It's you who are offending Wagner with your intolerant, irrational and violent response to other people's tastes.
@windstorm1000 If you're judging this production by this video then it is obvious that you haven't seen it. It actually turned out way differently than what is seen in this video. It's sad that you are uninterested in comprehending Freyer's motives (when he stated them so plainly in the video), even when they are more faithful to Wagner's original themes. Forming very strong disapproving opinions of something you haven't even seen and blaming it on the "German freaks" IS prejudice and racist.
Why do people who hate and despise Wagner's operas now produce them? This couldn't be any more fucked-up if Yoko Ono was in charge.
