  • Black mesa is story line with portal

  • 2:00 "look over there ====>" (i look to the right) :O a home depot ad!!

  • DoD day of defeat?

  • Blah Blah Blah *BLACK MESA* That's what I got from it >.<

  • mesa in spanish means table, so... black table?

  • @legoguy813

    Almost.

    Mesa is referring to Mesas.

"An isolated flat-topped hill with steep sides, found in landscapes with horizontal strata."

Which were named mesas because they resembled tables.

So Black Mesa is named after the desert environment it's in. And the word mesa was used to described certain geological features.

  • 0:39 Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System=GLaDOS

  • DOD?!?!? Day Of Defeat?

  • @blackandwhitepro34

    Department of Defense.

  • at 00:21 you see at first row it says:all Dod Contracts. Could that mean they play Day of Deafet? i wanna see if i can beat gordan :P

  • 'Black Mesa can eat my Bankrupt...'

  • this is not a easter egg realy because portal is in the same univers as half life

  • @Waverlay don't forget, the Boriealis belongs to aperture.

    Still Alive references Black Mesa

There are also many references to black Mesa in portal 2

  • @Waverlay don't forget, the Boriealis belongs to aperture.

    Still Alive references Black Mesa

There are also many references to black Mesa in portal 2

  • I know a portal reference in half life. It's on one of those newspapers in half-life 2 and it says on cover "Portal Storms In The Clouds" or something like that.

  • @Warverlay

Not related. Half-Life 2 was created way before the idea of Portal was put into production. Portal was created by a team highed right out of college. Half-Life was released in 2004. was in development for about 3 years I think, Portal was released in 2007, and the prototype the team created had a completely different name, setting, and style.

Portal storms refer to something else involving the 7-hour war in Half-Life.

  • @Draknfyre

    hired*

  • In portal 2 it says that there is POST-APPOCOLIPTIC testing i think the "appocoliys" is half life

  • In base 4 I'm fine!

  • not an easter egg. Portal takes place in the Half-life universe

  • They also make a reference to DoD (Day of Defeat another game by valve) either that or the acronym stands for something else

  • @LinkFan4199 Department of Defence.

  • "Aperture Science is Arguably Alive"

Bottom of the slide @ 0:38

  • @CptCaptulon Don't worry. Aperture Science is "Still alive."

  • FAKE, How Can You Believe This

  • @Spycrab1000 its not fake he just noclipped into the room that said it and after seeing this i did to

ive read them through the window but yea its NOT fake =/

  • @Luigi2446 yah now i kno bcuz i got the game 1 or 2 months ago

  • @Spycrab1000 REAL! ive seen it i has orange box 360 but just thru window

  • DoD = Department of Defense. Also, Portal and HL are in the same universe, only Portal 1 is set a few years after HL2's story.

  • watch the movie planet 51! That small camera robot has black mesa logo on it! D:

  • Comment removed

  • so what did this mean exactly? were aperture and black mesa competing or joint companies? are they both related in the black mesa incident?

  • @SotaBoyOG They were both competing for portal technology. Aperture made the portal gun but before they could reveal it to the world they were killed by glados.

Black mesa was testing there technology, and opened a rift that let aliens be teleported to there base which caused the black mesa incident

  • @Lazyguy366 very helpful thx. i also recently found out that the borealis ship or whatever in episode two has to do with the portal technology if im not mistaken

  • if you look at hte moniters over glados you see a black mesa logo

  • actualy i think that half life, portal, and team fortress take place in the same universe.

  • @Radaa5 Not Team Fortress. Half-Life and Portal do though.

  • @BorgMercenary Acualy yes, Im not talking about TF2 Im talking about TF Clasic

  • @Radaa5 TF2 and TFC are set in the same character universe as each other, so still no.

  • @Radaa5 team fortress 2 is in 1960's and team fortess classic is in 1990's...

  • its not a half life reference its black mesa referce! Get in teh progamz >:U

  • lol @ 0:41 it says "ARGUABLY ALIVE" at the bottom :D

    hooray for Still Alive references!

  • u dont have to noclip there just play the last chamber escape and you find that

  • @daskraut it isnt really a easter egg beacuse GLaDos actaully say ''maybe BLACK MESA??? that was a joke haha! fat chance!'' but you could call it that!

  • @HackersOfComputers that's why i didn't write 'egg', just 'e...' ;)

  • @daskraut but he clearly means ''easter egg'' even if he just write ''easter E...''

  • @HackersOfComputers in GLaDOS' room, before she starts the neurotoxin, on her screens, sometimes you can see the Black Mesa logo

  • @CupOFruit good to know i guess...

  • What room was this in?

  • @abede21 there is a couple of them

  • I love how hight the proposed 'GSA Schedule" is on the chart vs. Black Mesa.

    And then the actual :P

  • its not an easter egg valve says in the commentary that it takes place in the half life universe before half life 1 so yeah they tell you so it is not an easter egg it even says black mesa in the credits song so its not an easter egg they say aperture science is one of black mesas rivals even on wikipedia so know what your talking about before posting this type of thing!!!=)

  • COMO ENTRO ?¿ SOLO MIRE LOS GRAFICOS EN EL JUEGO

  • @JuanCarlosFTW

los de este video hablan ingles, para entrar usa noclip

this men say:how i enter??? i only see the graphics in the game

  • it's great

  • isnt realy an reference cause half life is portal and portal is hl at the borderlains in hl says apeture.....

  • 0:44 Arguably alive? Still alive!?

  • 0:16 DoD is Day of Defeat right? lol.

  • @Daggerspine107

I think they refer to the

    Department of Defense

  • @Bunny99s Oh ok lol thanks.

  • @Bunny99s And I guess day of defeat didnt really sound right XD.

  • dont noclip <.< use portal bumping or OoB. watch my video: Portal - How to get into the projector room

  • this music really makes me wanna shoot someone

  • If you play portal prelude, then you can see that without noclip.

Anyway, POINTING DESCRIPTION FAIL due to update several months ago.

  • thats actualy not an easter egg portal is in same universe as half life

  • you can get inside that room with portal bumping you don't have to use noclip

  • Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System (GLaDOS)

    Aperture's is arguably (Still) Alive.

AND it's a fully functional disk operating system :D

  • i put that on damn xfire

  • I've never played any Half-Life games, cold anyone explain this to me? (especially the ice part)

  • @Diddlemuffins Don't know much about the ice. Black Mesa is the company that Gordon Freeman worked for in Half-Life 1. Black Mesa and Aperture are business rivals.

  • Woah, Aperture is no competition with Black Mesa... And... besides... the nuero-toxin... thing...

  • you don't need to noclip into that room you can just look in through the window

  • @TheLotharx true true but i did it to get a better look at it

  • @daskraut yeah actually the window is pretty blurry

  • Its not an easter egg that Black Mesa and Aperture Science were competitors. Its a part of the story so its normal to see such screens across the Enrichment center.

  • what if portal has a connection with Half life like aperture and Black masa are competing and aperture messed with the little device in half life 1 and made all the creatures pop out of no where and what if in half-life 2 episode 3 or Half-life 3, Gordon Freeman meets the girl in portal meet (I don't know her name) in the game like it can be a 2 player co-op.

    (This is my opinion)

  • genetic lifeform lol the sure brang them into the world!

  • Lol there was no point ...you can see it through the window

  • Valve does this with most of their games because they're all pretty much the same with the exceptions of different stories, characters and environments. Left 4 Dead 2 is synonymous for their multiple references to other Valve games.

  • @silversnake4133 plus they all use the same phyics engine and some items, like doors are shared and have the same model!=)its obvious valve is takeing recycleing to a whole new level!

  • You know what's weird? I threw the projector around and not only did the beam of light come out of thin air, but the slideshow stayed on the screen!

  • @3DPlanets yeah, i did that, too. they obviously never expected people to ransack that room lol

  • its possible to get in there without noclip, i did it.

  • its not a easter egg, its part of the Aperture Science story. Play HL2:EP2 to see the Aperture Science ship.

  • @LakoonUK

Aperture Science ship: You can call it either the Borealis or the Aperture Science Supercarrying Seafaring Supervessel. #LOL

  • Isn't this in Portal: Prelude?

  • @phaphachboy No

  • @briotera You sure? there's a scene where you walk into a meeting and the guy tells you to get the hell out of there.

  • @phaphachboy Yes, I'm sure :D

  • @phaphachboy no

  • actually in xbox 360 version 2

  • At 0:19 on the left those are TF2 crossairs

  • And DoD is another game, Day of Defeat (also of Valve)

  • resonance cascade > portal technology

  • Of course there's half life references in portal they're basicly the same game..!

  • @evilspirits3 dont you compare half life to portal! PORTAL HAS CAKE, end of argument xD

  • @shawzie1916 but it was a lie :'(!!!!!

  • @evilspirits3 cake is only a lie to those who do not deserve cake (as in those who were not able to complete the game or skipped the end song "Still alive", search the cake is not a lie before saying it is ¬.¬)

  • @shawzie1916 but in reality you do not get cake

The companion cube gets cake :3

  • What fagot actually decided to record this shit.

    daskraut

    You are a heiling fail.

    Silly nub.

  • @siratthebox 1) faggot with double-g. 2) the faggot was me. 3) i might be a... wat? but 4) you are b&. see you on /b/

  • @daskraut WTF?

  • @siratthebox your spelling sucks and you suck and have no life

  • @siratthebox nub? umm.. oohh u mean noob!! get it right.. faGGot.

    oh and learn to spell

  • ass

  • @resto4life troll

  • +2.59% of all DoD (Day of Defeat) contracts???

  • *Rolls eyes* ITS SOPPOSED TO BE THERE IDIOT!

  • Portal Easter E... Half-Life Reference

title says it al, he did not say its an Easter Egg so stop posting its not a easter egg

  • the hole game (portal) is a reference to HL, for what i know it happens in the HL world, and portal 2 suppoese to continune a bit the story of HL.

  • DoD is day of defeat! XD

  • also in the still alive song. ahehem "maybe black mesa? that was a joke haha fat chance"

  • well

i think it isnt an easter egg...

i think its just a spoiler.

but its cool to this :)

  • its not a frikin easter egg u ass

  • @r0ss1e nobody frikin said it was one. ass yourself.

  • @daskraut Urm..you titled the video "Portal Easter E... Half-Life Reference" ASS!

  • @williamwordsworse now look at the title a little bit closer and maybe you'll see.

  • If you notice, one of the slides say Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System, aka: G.L.a.D.O.S.

  • don't get it, cant you see this without noclip? why is this an easteregg?

  • what really is black mesa?

  • Actually it isnt really an easter egg It sais portal is placed in the half life universe.

  • My ears bleeding

  • wait 2.59% of DoD contracts as in Day of Defeat?

  • @mishmosh95 Depeartment of Defence

  • @mishmosh95 Department of Defense

  • @mishmosh95 no the actualy tearm DoD stands for the Department of Defense i nthe pentagon

  • @mishmosh95 lol...

  • @mishmosh95

no, like in Department of Defense

Agency of the US government who is response for, but not only limited to military research

  • @mishmosh95 yes. DoD was created by a totally different company, but steam wanted some owning rights to the game.

  • @mishmosh95 Department of Defense.

  • @Coops9753 can you tell me more

  • @megagangster321

This all happened before the combine invaded Earth... Now during the 'Competition' between the two Research Facilities, Black Mesa did succeed in making a portal but it led to the planet Xen which the Combine were invading at the time. (Notice the machinery at the bottom of the Nihilanth?) The Combine were trying to take control over the planet and dominated... Not really much else to the story for the two facilities without it leading to Half Life 2 though.

  • there is another black mesa reference.....it says "What happend at Black Mesa?"./......in an empty conference room

  • uh what happened to the ppl in the facility its like they just disapered?!

  • "1998The untested AI is activated for the first time as one of the planned activities on Apertures first annual bring-your-daughter-to-work day. In many ways, the initial test goes well: Within one picosecond of being switched on, GLaDOS becomes self-aware.The "going well" phase lasts for two more picoseconds, at which point GLaDOS takes control of the facility, locks everyone inside for 24/7 testing. Her goal: beat the hated Black Mesa in the race to develop a functioning portal technology."

  • @Gamershaze

Yup you are right. But the morality core was inserted on her to stop her from infecting the laboratories with deadly neurotoxin. Somehow anyway the employes died because of the deadly neurotoxin ;-)

  • 0:55 They both have GLaDOS?

  • That's original or simple edit?

  • Black mesa and Apenture Science are basically rivals, i think this took place after the incident in hl1.

  • portal is set in the same time as HL2 and both refer to each other. portal does this and HL2 does it in the borielis ship viewing. you see it on a screen and some1 says somthin about Aperture.

  • Dr Kleiner says something like "Our friends at Aperture science" but I can't remember the rest, I only played it a few days ago, but it's hard to remember.

  • @thefunkilledu

Actually, portal happens between HL1 and HL2

  • no, the portal we PLAY happens at the time of HL2

  • @thefunkilledu

Oh, I see what you mean, sorry I misunderstood.

  • happens bro

  • dod

  • i think its stuff bout business magagement

  • Or,just listen t "Still Alive" it goes something like "I could go to BLACK MESA.Ha ha,that was a joke."

  • @TheIwc1 "Maybe BLACK MESA... THAT WAS A JOKE HA HA FAT CHANCE"

  • Lol, you had to noclip to get in there. When I was playing on the 360 in the standalone Portal game for the Xbox 360 Arcade, I was able to get in there simply by portal bumping. Very hard to do.

  • lol just think...in the 1950-60s aperture science was manufacturing shower curtains as "low tech portals from the outside of the shower to the inside"

  • lol aperture science was there in like 1960 really because i saw a calendor with 1960 while playin portal

  • it was just an estimate-ish-like-date-thing O_O

  • @TheMooostache they were just go on the websites

  • @TheMooostache Lawl, I've heard that before! Where was it from!?

  • @higybigy lol really?! i thought i made it up xD

  • @TheMooostache Maybe I saw it from someone else that got It from you or I saw this video a long time ago and don't remember. Lawl.

  • for DoD?

    Day of Defeat reference lolwut

  • i think black mesa was aputrures rival

  • God, you people should really read more about backstorys of Black Mesa and Aperture Science.

Portal and Half Life 1 take place at the same period of time, both competing in creating outstanding teleportation tech.

It isn't known if the Black Mesa incident takes place at the same time as Aperture Science incident. GLaDOS went crazy and flooded the labs with nerotoxins which killed the personal almost instantly.

Through, there were survivors as proven by wall writings, and infamous, Rat Man.

  • Comment removed

  • I knew it. Black Mesa was such a fuck up because the Federal Government practically ran it. I mean, no wonder walking through the grey halls of Black mesa and talking with a bunch of old angry geezers felt like going to the DMV.

  • this could be valve's way of telling us about BM:s

when i first saw that i was thinking about a new

HALF LIFE game where you get to go back to Black Mesa or a remake of HALF LIFE. Now they

are remaking HALF LIFE into BM:s i think that was kinda cool.

  • hmmmmm um you will think im a noog for portal but at 0:40 the first letter of every word spells GLaDOS... i never noticed that...

  • @brotzo1

That's where GLaDOS got her/it's name.

  • not an easter egg

  • did anyone say it was one?

  • I know that NOCLIP is a hax code, but does it stand for something?

  • @stormsirens2

    No clipping, kinda obvious.

  • okay, so clipping is......... uh........ a static mesh that is in static mode and not in ignore (sketchyphysics terms) Ignore= No solid surface, Static = a stationary solid (cannot move) DARN NAO I'M COMFUSSELD

  • I'm just guessing by the name of it, it mean clipping is colliding with solid objects.Which noclipping is not colliding with solid objects.

  • ha the borealis probably houses the aperture hand held portal device

  • @matLOLmat

I'm having second thoughts about it needing to be "destroyed at all costs".

  • yep lol we must not destroy the portal device we must keep it

  • Don't blame youtube you fag.

  • It's funny how all the dumb fanboys think "DoD"is Day of defeat. Yes Day of Defeat is a game by Valve. But in the context of "DoD contracts" and "federal funds" it is clear to me that they are using it as the acronym for Department of Defense. The fact that Day of Defeat shares the same acronym is just a coincidence.
