Replica watches are known for the quality/price aspect. Nowadays replica watches are really high quality, can you find a +- 350 dollar watch with an ETA 2836-2 movement? And with 316F hardened stainless steel?
Don't think so! And guess what, the current best replica of the Rolex Submariner does use these parts, along with sapphire glass and more. You just have to admit replica watches these days can be very nice, and accept that for some people these are collectable items and part of a hobby.
a rolex is a status symbol to show that you have succeeded in the road to success and the submariner is the ultimate showcase award to reflect that achievement. i doubt if others can spot a fake to a real one on someone's wrist even if he handed to him to inspect unless this person qualifies to identify fake from the genuine article.
I buy fake Rolexes from places that I travel too. I never wear them. But it's just nice to come back from say the Bahamas or Italy and say. "Hey I bought a Rolex in(insert country here) from a guy off the train)" Some people collect buy post cards or t shirts I buy fake Rolxes. At least it's something that I can use if say, my real Tissot or Bulova break, or I want to dress up as James Bond for the night in my tux...Submariner and all :)
Actually many people do pay attention to your wrists. I work in an business where people do pay attention to the watch that you wear. To be honest Rolex's aren't worth the price. You are mainly paying for the brand. FYI, a USED Submariner runs around 6 to 10 grand! I have bought 3 very good quality Swiss made automatics for a third the cost and the craftsmans ship is just as good as a Rolex. The fit and finish might be a little better on a Rolex but not really enough to notice.
@Zee06 With any expensive watch you are paying for the brand, very little of it goes into the watch for parts and labor. Rolex can charge the prices they do because they have built up a reputation. There are other brands that have just as good of watches (quality and hand made) that are much cheaper but dont have the brand name. I have 2 tag heuers (aquaracer and carrera) that put together retail price couldnt put me into an entry level rolex.
@Zee06 Tag heuer is also a paying a large amount for brand name but i have a particular style i like and tag heuer seems to hit that, and few ramond weils and a few victoronicx watches fit my tastes. Most cheap fake rolex's (at least the ones i have purchased) dont last very long due to the delicate parts and the cheap parts that are used. You can usually tell if someone is wearing a real rolex not just by the watch but also who the person is (a janitor probably wont have a real one).
@MrArd92 Raymond Weil. Cool I have been considering purchasing one of their autos. But I am not sure what to think. I have read mixed reviews. What are your thoughts?
@Zee06 The quality is up there with tag heuer and use many of the same movements. Their resale is lower but when i buy a watch i buy it for life so resale value is worthless to me. Its not an old company so thats why they tend to be a little cheaper. One thing i have noticed is that if its a brand that isnt old or expensive (rolex +) many people look at it as cheap or not a real watch brand. Also brands that feature mostly or exclusively in house movements are considered real watch makers.
@MrArd92 Thanks, the quality part is all I need to be sold on. You are right about the brand though, there are many watches out there that haven't been around as long as Tag or Tissot or Rolex but their quality are just as good(RW or Ernst Benz). I buy a watch for life as well, so resale isn't important to me as well. I like the styling of RW so I may go pick one up in the next little while. I am a stronger believer in sometimes paying for a name/extras isn't worth the price hike. I.E Tag vs RW
Anyone knows better and is positive that the new 2010 line Rolex models have been improved onto all solid chunk center links? Or are they (at least some of them) still hollow?
@HalflingShireFolk The only watch Rolex still makes that has the hollow mid link is the submariner no date. These have stayed pretty much the same for a long time and are still free of the ceramic bling and those gross lugs.
@wizardofOZify Even if this is true, and I still highly doubt it. It doesn't make the watches any less fake. Nor does it legitimise their purchase. Or add any credence to them. People do not buy them out of horological interest. They buy them because they want people to think they are successful and with ample disposable income. :D
@wizardofOZify More likely bad copies of old ETA movements. It's unlikely that the Chinese import Swiss parts. Highly unlikely. These replicas are about as Swiss as Tiger Woods.
Hey I saw a video that was taken in Rolex factory in Switzerland and some mid-bracelet/band pieces were empty inside them, they were just curved. I was shocked and I still don't understand how that's possible in such a great company's manufacture section. WTF!? I'm still in shock. Check out the YouTube video titled: A look inside the Rolex factory. And the shameful scene I'm talking about is at 0:54...
@HalflingShireFolk Yes, the mid link on pre ceramic generation Rolex bracelets is hollow. This is one of the ways to spot a fake bracelet. It is actually a more costly process to make a bracelet this way.
Dude what's the point of getting a HCL ''Rolex'' afterall? This is Rolex, not some Japanese made Seiko stuff! It just doesn't make any sense to me. Rolex is supposed to be a true representer of perfection, including in details. Isn't solid chunk an indication of more durability and more quality? Ayways thanks for the share cheers!
@HalflingShireFolk LOL I don't know buddy, if it's something as simple as making it harder to fake then it's a good thing in my opinion. The new ones have got solid links so you can always put a new bracelet on if that takes your fancy. Don't forget though, the old rattly bracelet has been time tested for over 50 years. The new ones have a few reported clasp failiures...The old bracelet is on the watches I've always wanted so I don't mind the hollow links. :P!
A genuine Timex is far better than a fake Rolex - why? Because the Timex is a genuine thing, and probably runs better than the fake. Only fake people wear fakes - and calling them 'replicas' changes nothing, any more than calling racism 'pro-White' changes the racist character. Anyway, this vid has been handled the RebelKnightCSA Way For Dealing With Fake Watches - disliked, flagged for scams / fraud, and publically dissed.
What a lot of rot you do talk ! where all fake in some way or another ?? ( Think about it?) it,s not just watches?
all life,s a load of bollocks!!! who gives a shit if it,s fake or not! it,s not fake every thing is genuine in it,s own way!!! if you want to ware what you thing is real?good on you! me i could.not care less!! do you realize ETA who make the movements also supply other watch makers! people are so g------e!
@skyjetfive They are fake. Someone has knocked them up from cheaper parts and slapped a Rolex badge on them. For the pretentious use of fake wannabe rich guys. You seem to be implying that fake watches are infact real because they physically exist. That's pretty funny :D
You don't have to be poor to appreciate a good replica.
Real watches may be better but these replica's are good looking watches. Wearing a real one is like saying, "i don't know what to do with my money so id rather throw it around instead of spending the money on usefull things or causes"....
A watch is just an item to look at if you want to know the time. So a fake one is good enough for me. :)
@Cynfully73 very good response and i tend to agree when it comes to watches.....wearing a replica is find as the quality is very good. Those who say the quality is bad don't know what their talking about and just like to spew hate like the troll that they are.
@noobzrule Actually you don't have to be rich to save. If a watch isn't worth enough to you to save 3 grand plus than its not worth you buying a rolex. The point of someone buying a fake rolex is to show off to others that they have a "rolex" Most people don't look at your wrists and if they do then many can spot a rolex from a mile away. If you run around actively showing it off then your just an ass. (not necessarily directed at you)
@MrArd92 Well said. What people don't seem to realise is that if you buy the classic stainless steel Rolex sportswatches you can get your money back, even with a profit, pretty much anywhere anytime you want due to the high worldwide demand for them. So infact they actually cost nothing and kind of act like a bank account.
You don,t have to be wealthy to appreciate the real thing. Replicas are bullshit, a waste of money, & says a lot about the owners. Wearing a replica is like saying, "I don,t know anything about watches, I don,t really care for them, & I can,t afford the real thing"...
@jaydanmoon and your just a snotty rich person who make fun of people who can't afford the real thing or you're too stupid to figure out how much real rolex/omega cost. look it up sometimes, if you can.
@ColonelAllan the reason why people buy rolex is to impress people like you. for watch lovers, there are much better watches like panerai, iwc, jlc, breguet, patek philippe, even cartier. rolex is just like bose audio, a name most recognizable to the masses as the best.
@noobzrule What is the reason people pretend to have the real things? Rolex watches are a bargain. No watch lover I know would endorse fake watches. So don't give me that shit. So you can name a handful of high end watches. By the way you're going to need rocksalt for all the places that hell froze over on the day I try to impress you. So you can take your fake Rolex and stick it up your wannabe rich guy arse.
@ColonelAllan Rolex are a bargain?? for rich snobby ppl like you maybe but not for the general public who cannot afford a 8k rolex chrono to impress ppl which you do so well. My replica Rolex look just like the real thing and is even more accurate since its a quartz movement and guess what? i don't have to wear my Rolex for a week and it still provide accurate time while yours will stop moving so you tell me which one is more useful. Oh yes, the purpose is to act impress.
@noobzrule Bargain; Good value for money - Hand assembled swiss craftsmanship for less than other high end watches like Breguet, Hublot, Patek etc. Also much more robust and rugged (Pateks are flimsy in comparison). Good resale value, even for a profit for the classic stainless steel sports watches. I'd like to see you try that. You obviously don't understand the point of automatic watches. Buy a real Casio if you want quartz accuracy. Stop trying you impress people with your Chinese Rolex.
@ColonelAllan Yes sir Colonel! and the same can be said about fake branded sunglasses or any other falsely labelled famous brand consumer good worn to deceive those around the wearer. How low is the self esteem of these people ?Are they so dissatisfied with who they are that they need to pretend to be something they are not?
