It hasn't arrived yet, but I didn't realize it came with that handy front/rear panel USB 3.0 port in addition to the ports in the back. That alone is worth a good $20. And here I was already shopping for something to take care of that...
Also I may just have to dig up an old floppy drive to play some beautiful floppy music in my new rig. :D
Just bought this board and a 2500k and not eating for a good week or two because of it found out my i5 wont support 3.0 but i have a feeling by the time i need to upgrade it ill be ok in a year or so. Thank you paul you a s ROCK! sorry :)
@oIBBEo I DON'T KNOW!?!?!?!?????? MAYYEB YOYUUUUU SHOULD USE MORE QUESTION MARKS!?!??!?!???????????????????????????????????????????????
Yes, it's fucking compatible. It's Sandy Bridge and he said the board was Sandy Bridge compatible along with mentioning that the PCI Express 3.0 would run at 5.0GT/S with a "SANDY-BRIDGE" processor installed.
One of the best boards out there, really is getting over looked. It also is prepared for the future. Can throw a 2600 or 2700K in it & easily go up to 5GHZ, very stable & this offers a lot of options. They did a great job with this piece. Great Review, lots don't know how compatible this board is with old & new hardware. Great REVIEW..
/having the power and reset buttons on the board, does this mean when does the external test boot build, i dont have to short two pins; i just hit that power button
Is the 22nm Ivy Bridge basically a "k" CPU, such as a i5 2500k? Please answer me guys, because I'm not sure whether I should buy this motherboard or not!
From specs "Supports DDR3 2133(OC)/1866(OC)/1600/1333/1066 non-ECC, un-buffered memory". What those (OC) means in this specs after 2133 and 1866 values?
@atlmyk brotha' i know what that shortcut means. I just don't know can i install, let's say 1866 Mhz memory, or I can't but instead I can overclock 1600 Mhz to 1866...That's what I've meant
I fucking hate when you guys block this content to mobil devices. I am a newegg buyer, before I buy something from your company I always watch your reviewsbut since you stop allowing mobil devices to watch you videos I haven't bought shit. I am mad
@NewRisingSong the lga 2011 are sandy bridge-e cpus....i think. they are for ultra high end systems and servers. most of the budget ivy bridge cpus will be 1155. i think.
@L3g3nd4ryN3w6 hey man pci e 3.0 will work with all 6 series intel chipsets if you didnt know thet, it depends on your mobo, you will need bios update and ivy bridge, i know for sure all gigabyte mobos with 6 series chipsets will suport pci e 3.0, you can read about it on the gigabyte's web site
@merts487 ASRock is the budget subsidiary of ASUS, they make good boards for cheap.
@newegg I was thinking about getting the cheaper version of this board, putting in the Intel pentium G620 (cause it is cheap), and using a cheaper GPU (thinking about a 6670). My plan would be to upgrade to an Ivy after x-mas (supposed release), and the GPU during the next gen release (April?). But I am concerned that Ivy will use 2011 for all the good cards, and only have low end 1155. any input / advice? Thanks
@snowninja88 ASRock was a spin-off (not a break-away) and listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange but is still owned by ASUS as self-operating subsidiary. This move was originally done to compete in the OEM market to product mobos for system manufacturers until they decided to move into the DIY market. However, This means ASRock can do whatever it wants, even compete with ASUS. In the end though ASUS wins because they are earning the money that ASRock is bringing in.
Get a FM1 board and use AMD's quad core APU. If you mean socket 2011, that is the E-series of Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge. Also the new GPUs will come out between November and March (starting at 78xx/680 usually, and going out from there,. So top end card will be around 2 months later and 4 months later for lowest end ones.)
@balisticjoe Wait for LGA 2011, and by that time we'll see how Ivy Bridge handles whatever it is you do (probably games) over Sandy Bridge E, and then you'll have to make a price/performance decision.
Dude you didn't explain how the PCI-e bus switch chip works and divides the bandwidth ?

What's the major differences between Extreme 4 and Extreme 3? Is the 4 really worth $80 more?
SoCalDude805 4 weeks ago
So... the Extreme3 has 2 x16 PCIe slots, but this one (the Extreme4) only has 1 x16, 1 x8, and 1x4?
Bit of an odd way to upgrade isn't it?

@3sonyps Pcie 3.0 doesn't really improve performance...
Well, it does, but marginally. Less than 1% on most video cards or pcie devices...
Unless you're running 2 mars 2 cards, you won't really need it.
