  • tab tab tab haiku like tab imagination big bright tab adjust the tab!!!!!!! someone tab this please!

  • i think the comparisons to kinsella work is based on the vocal style. it sounds pretty kinsella like. also, the guitars often sound pretty and mathy like in american football. even more than that, alergnon's debut LP's cover art is really simple and innocent looking, kinda like the cover art for the cap'n jazz LP.

they're comparable, sure. but algernon is a fun band and they are getting less and less kinsella-esque as they evolve.

  • Goddamn we've got some good emo near the Valley. Glad I got into these guys.

  • @LemonInYourEye they are influenced by 90s emo bands like cap n jazz and have mathy music parts

  • pretty sweet, reminds me of a lot of the black metal I listen to lol

  • sorry if this is a stupid question...but what genre is this exactly? I like it a lot, but not quite sure what it fits under. Kinda sounds like this town needs guns, but im not sure what genre they are either? is it math rock?

  • @LemonInYourEye I wouldn't call it math rock-- I only started hearing that term a few years ago, and Algernon is rooted in something a bit older. I see it most often under "indie rock" but with "emo" mentioned as well. This is a continuation of a genre the Kinsella brothers seemed to start (see American Football, Owls, Cap'n Jazz, etc) but I've never heard it summed up as one genre. Keep on the lookout for terms like "twinkly guitars" and indie/emo and you'll find a handful of gems. :D

  • @LemonInYourEye midwest emo

  • @L07EK Too bad they're from Pennsylvania

  • @iiamthepalmtree pretty much all of the new wave of emo is from pa..... Its called midwest emo, because it originated in the midwest.

  • Beautiful ! Awesome ! Come in France !

  • I love Algernon Cadwallader! It's as if if Cap'n Jazz stayed together!

  • emo veins!

  • chill version of cap n jazz wish there stuff was on itunes

  • please tell me someone knows what kind of amps theyre using!

  • @konradharla I have no idea, but their guitar tone's slightly similar to AF, and Mike used Peaveys in AF.

Really, it's all in the guitar though obviously. Get yerself a Telecaster and you should be in good shape.

  • go flyers

  • hell yeah! algernon cadwallader is the shit.

    :]

    Have a fucking great day.

  • Uh.... deal wih WHAT changes, exactly?

  • shut the fuck up dude

  • i almost wanna agree with you, don cab was there in there 10 years ago but, don cabs got nothing for vocals man not to say every band has to have vocals

ex. Ghosts and Vodka, Don Cab

  • coheed and cambria got nothing on this!

  • I'm in love

  • this is perfect.

  • so wat dude if they sound simple i wanna see u play like them, cap isnt so great u knw he gots an annoying voice actually no voice these guys do

  • cap'n jazz is what started this shit

  • yeah they really do sound like cap'n jazz minus distortion.

  • I don't get the Cap'n Jazz comparison. I think the vocal delivery can be similar, but if you guys are talking about the overall sound, i'd disagree.

The guitars are too clean and twinkly, and the drumming is too simple.

They sound more like American Football on speed to me. Which is pretty awesome.

  • For this type of neo kinsella-core you should also check out Rockets and Blue lights who sound a hell lot like American Football and Street Smart Cyclist who sadly broke up :(

  • Philly is a hotspot for bands appropriating Cap'n Jazz's sound.

  • empire empire i was a lonely estate, castevet, joie de vivre, anything on count your lucky stars records... the midwest is coming back!

  • fuck yeah!

  • They sound like Cap'n Jazz, but not to the point where they sound JUST like them. Which is why I love these guys.

  • sounds like American Football with a fun side to them

  • I think, they sound like Cap'n Jazz, if Cap'n Jazz was tighter.

  • inadvertantly, yes i think they are. they are covering their sound!

  • that other guitarist needs to get that flyers sticker off his guitar

  • ahhhh, i've always loved the part at 1:29 where the whole pace of the song changes.

  • favorite song. favorite band.

  • cap'n jazz....

  • Holy shit, great guitarist!

  • Is the drummer wearing a high-visibility jacket? Now THAT's alternative.

  • hahahaha...oh so happy, my friend only told me about these guys a few days ago, and now i love them

  • bullshit algernon is there own band not trying to sound like anyone

  • I'd have to agree. I think they've definitely been influenced by Kinsella stuff, but they're certainly trying to go their own direction as well.

Listening to their album it's clear they aren't trying to emulate other bands, just do their own thing in an under-appreciated music genre that they love.

  • I think it's strange that so many people reduce them to being like owls or Cap'n Jazz or American Football.

I agree they have aspects of those bands but that's rather conceptual stuff like less distortion and mathy leads. Concerning songwriting they definetly go their own way.

But whatever I love all of those bands and wouldn't want to miss one.

  • Their drummer strays away from the style, thats why its original.

  • @LightOfDayVideo but hasn't every artist haha

  • Very talented guitarist to be honest. But the CapnJazz vs. Algernon Cadwallader theory is really just the matter of centuries. Kinsella brothers are like, grandfathers to AC, but at the same time, i think AC kicks ass right now more then CapnJazz back then. At the same time listening to CapnJazz now, its like something you definately dont want to compare.

  • That is one of the smartest Youtube comments I've seen in a while haha.

  • Haikuuuuuuuuuu-liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike imaaaaaaaaaagination!

  • i've been listening to this song on repeat all day, don't know why it didn't occur to me to search for them on YouTube! awesome!

  • this is one of the most amazing bands youll ever hear

  • Are they covering a Cap'n Jazz song?

  • no. Really good band

  • I wouldn't say they're "trying really hard" :P

Besides, lyrically, I think this is some of the happiest music I've ever heard. ...like, this will put you in a GOOD MOOD--when occasionally Cap'n Jazz is for indifferent, bleh days... I mean, in my opinion. :)

  • lets juts say....this is what capn jazz would sound like if they were still around
