Dang lucky. I have a CJ 2A willy that been siting for a few years. Clutch is stuck together. Can someone send me a vidoe how to pull the whole thing apart and put it back together.
The top speed you want to drive these at without hurting the engine is about 45 MPH. this things original engine was blown in 70 when my one uncle borrowed it from his brother, and drove it up the road doing 60...
I ran into a guy with a CJ-2A at a gas station the one night, and he put a buick v6 in that one, and said he did it for a higher top speed. He said he could do (if he wanted to) 70 with that engine. we went up the road, looked back and he was flying up on us :) stock axles
@tommartyn Mine is on original axles and running gears, my dad used to drive it hunting at 60 MPH, on the highway. Getting everything to fit under the hood with a v6 is hell. Half of the accelerator linkages are home made, the radiator is a wide, space-waster and the air intake looks like something from a 1920's car, trying to find something else. Now that I've looked, I have very little idea what this engine came out of, I think it's called a Buick 'Fireball' or something.
The engine might have come out of a CJ-5 or something. I'm pretty sure Willys put them in some jeeps in the late 60's or early 70's i'm sure it would be an easier fit in a cj-5 though. haha, yeah, i'm REALLY into the old 20's looking syle. i was looking at an an older catapillar forklift the other day, and engine looked so similar to the 134 engine in my willys. I think its a decendant of it. :) Running off of propane though.
Whew, what a GREAT job. I did one and then had a 16yr old whose momma was unemployed/welfare hit me; bent frame. As a poor college kid at the time, I only had liability. Time to fix it!
Does anyone know where to get a good unaltered CJ3A frame? Please let me know where, (website would be great if it's a business, or post your video of it if it's a personal item). Please let me know how much it is, and where it would be shipped from so shipping pricing can be figured out.

i paid 500 bucks for it 5 or so years ago, and i had taken the driveshaft off because i was going to take the trans out, instead of taking the engine out. But the engine ended up being WAY easier.
should of taken the tub off i found it easier to work on the engine and transmission witht the tub off but nice about the jeeps is that its easy no matter which way you do it
????? what the fuck? That is the most horrible thing i've ever heard! Why would you want to destroy this awesome incredible ACTUAL jeep from 1946, just to take a very small amount of money off of a new, piece of shit vehicle, that is absolute junk, will not last for shit, and i wouldn't even be able to pay off any way! ??? It wouldn't even apply for that, they have to be legal and on the road for at least a year... This hasn't been legal since 1971.
The next day i got enough coolant in the radiator, and have not had a problem with this thing since! we've been beating the shit out of it, haveing a crazy amount of awesome unique fun, that you just can't have anymore because these things are so rare. This is possibly one of the best vehicles ever made... i don't get why anyone would want to destroy it... that is so weird. It works awesome!
I've had success with the brutality method of un-sticking clutches in the past. Block the wheels, set the parking brake, hook up a ridiculous battery charger and keep hitting the starter until the clutch makes an awful sound.
She sounds a bit like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I learned to operate manual transmission vehicles while tearing around the woods in a '47 (I think) Willys Jeep. Good times were those.
It could be, over time. The key is to hit it in short bursts. I've always had them break loose in less than a minute, but it'd probably be good to let the starter and cables cool for a bit if it took longer.
this thing was very very stuck together. that kind of stuff was attempted much, and didn't work at all. i've had alot of luck with bucking a vehicle in 1'st gear medium rpm, just bounce my foot up and down on the gas pedal while holding the clutch, and it will generally break free. happened alot on my jetta after creek crossing :)
i love the sarcasm lol!,the problem with takin apart jeeps is there so hard to get to,he says that while he's sittin there in clear working environment!
haha, yeah, it is great how easy and open working on those things is. they were designed to be worked on while you were getting shot at, so they made them kinda easy :)
Got it back to working order that night :) put the seats back in, 2 days or so later, and have been romping it every day since :) Romped it all day today :) had to pull 2 broken tractors all the way back to the field with it. incredible machines! :) what year is your's?
Mine is a '48. I cleaned a lot of crap out the oil pan and gas tank, new plugs, cap, plug wires, rebuilt carb etc. It ran pretty good before I put the new plug wires in, but once they were in, I could hardly get it to run and when it did, it sounded like it was running on one cylinder. After much swearing, I figured out that the distributer was 180 off-as was the oil pump shaft. Runs pretty good again.
haha, it was cool, eccept that it only charged at higher rpm's, so i tried putting a starter/generator on it from a bolens, but the engine pully is way smaller then a wisconsin engine, so you have to rev it even higher with that to get it to charge... so still no charging. might want to do a GM alternator, they charge pretty good at low rpm's
You can fix that by bending the tabs in the regulator. It's the little black box on the fender well on the generator side. I think it's the middle tab you bend, but you can instructions in a book for it assuming you can find one. Barely bending it makes a huge difference, and you don't want to charge more than about 20 amps, and that's pushing it.
Nice man! those things are insane... not really that much like these. mine had pretty wide tires on it, and all that power, plus the 304's sound was just awesome. not that i don't dig the tractor sound from the flat head 134 :) awesome AMC engine that 304 :)
Ha! thats pretty funny, i never had a radiator for my 74 304 powered beast. a tree had fallen on it years before i got it it. smashed the roll bar down, bent the hood and body all up. probably bent the frame too. i tried putting a postal jeep radiator in it one time... but the hoses were in different spots, and i gave up :)
lol yeah iunno wat happened, but i posted a comment askin if you guys put a different engine in, because i thought in a different video you were talkin about how the engine was from a generator, and about 15 seconds after posting that, you went on and said it was a different engine lol
ah, hahah, yeah its cool, the engine came stock with the generatator, or vice versa, but the engine even says jeep on it :) its exactly the same except set up to sit stationary on a generator instead of run a jeep. the pcv type thing just vents to the ground, instead of to the intake, but theres a plug on the intake, so i'm probably gonna hook that up at some point, take the lines of the old engine.
haha, i don't think an amish dude would be using a truck, or working on a jeep :) thats a little too electronic, and modern and all that. But yeah its me! :) This black chick asked me if i was Muslim the other day :) she was laughing though, and so was i :)
But that was a first. the amish thing i hear pretty often.
ive been thinking about getting a willys for plowing my driveway, being my tractor broke :(...would u think its a good idea? ive started to really like the willys because i started to play WWII video games lol. my friend has a land rover defender 80 series, its a really cool machine.
Yeah man! i'd recomend it for sure! :) these things are like tractors anyway :) just more fun :)
They are something completly different then a car or truck! :) just really cool beasts. Yeah land rover's too! the land rover guy bought a willys and liked it so much he made a land rover out of it, then designed his own! :) Its cool stuff. :)
Funny thing, I had a dream this morning about that volvo...and I was taking it apart and putting it back together...then it rained, and I couldn't find it, fucking weird, I have to stop watching these videos.
haha! that is awesome man, yeah, that happens, i'll go out there and look around for a car or tractor for 10 minutes sometimes, not able to remember where the hell i left it. They're normally right in plain sight, but there's just so much stuff out there. Thats cool man, but yeah, it sounds like its starting to be a problem. :)
Synchronizers are happy for sure. they still feel good! which is cool after a few years of misuse like that.
oh yeah! that was the easiest thing ever :) and fun to boot.
This beast is drews. he got it for about 200 bucks or something. it works awesome. he's gonna put it on the road and all. But its spending some time as a recovery vehicle in the field for a while. :)
i start alot of things and never finish them too. i get really motivated to start things :) then i kinda move on.
