  • It doesn't matter what tour it was, what really matters is that we are privy to a rare treat, three young masters in their powerful beginnings. So rock the fuck out with me once more, RUSH!!!

  • still rockin' live, just saw them last year in southern california

  • I seriously just watched it like 13 times in the last hour xD IM NOT OBSESSED!! Jk I am xD Rush is the most amazing band ever. When someone says stop talking about rush, or shut up, I say fuck you, give him the nice finger, and walk away like nothing happened.

  • @TheGuines13 Nothing just happened.

  • I photographed Rush in 75 and 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • Ru kidding me! ! That is the shit

  • This is cool as hell, the song has got to go on my ipod touch.

  • It completely sucks there were no pro-shoots of this era of Rush. This is compelling stuff.

  • THis is NOT from the CoS tour. It is late in the 2112 tour. Key giveaways:

    1. Neil has an 8" splash on his left kick. He did not have this cymbal for CoS.

    2. Alex has twin full Marshall stacks - he could not afford these for the CoS tour.

    3. The bass drum heads with "Neil" on the right kick and "Peart" on the left kick came late in the 2112 tour.

    4. The CoS album cover (along with FBN and 2112) were projected onto a scrim from a slide projector.

  • @bigskyrockies WOW for awesome knowledge

  • This song is actually called Garden Road. It is not Caress of Steel.

  • Geddy's bass is established well here. Even the casual ear could decern it. Garden Road strait foreward suburb hack' n slash. Doesn't sound like a song Neil would write although he probably felt that way too. It sounds like a song about hating green lawns and suburbs. yup! Geddy or Alex or John Rutsey writes that stuff.

  • garden road was performed live but never released studio version, same with fancy dancer.

on live versions, neil plays drums

  • by this time they stopped doing that song

    but still

  • Da Shizz Homies !

  • @zarusoba69 Pardon?

  • Three of "Canada's" finest and talented men? Hey, they're all Canadian through and through and I'd never try and minimize their personal pride in being Canadian, nor Canada's pride in calling Rush their own home growns but shit, these guys are three of the WORLD'S finest and talented men!! Thanks for sharing them.

  • PQP!!! FODA! Caralho, como não conheci esse lado do rush??

in other words, rush fuck rulez

  • I wish I could have seen this tour live. Especially The Necromancer, but The Fountain of Lamneth would be amazing too.

  • Wow! I wish I could "like" this more than once! Listen to that bass!!!

    Chaka NYC

  • @PainofLeprosy

I miss him playing the Rick.. but I understand. Dragging that thing around night after night will wear your shoulder out ! But you can't beat the sound!

  • RUSH always brings up Canada....but you never metion britain in Led Zepp vids .....

  • three douches missed the like button

  • Yeah!!

    ROCK'N'ROLL!!!

  • kick ass song!!

  • One of the most dynamic bands I have ever seen live. They literally will make your jaw drop. Three of Canada's finest and talented men. Pure awesome.

  • @kleo8577 I went to the Toronto Molson Amphitheatre show in July last year, (holy shit that was a year ago???) and I brought one of my friends who had heard of Rush but wasnt really a fan, but after the show he was freaking out and saying it was the greatest thing he had ever seen. Rush is just that awesome

  • @TOSportsFan1990 The same thing happened when I took my 15 year old step son to the S&A show. He "used to" not be into "older bands" but now they are favorite! They'll win anyone over!

  • This song is fucking awesome! Why did they not record it for the debut? Even though you can't beat the energy in this version. These guys are on fire and Geddy sounds incredible!

  • 0:50 best thing ever

  • saw this on the rush documentary (beyond the lighted stage) and it rocks.

even though I'm only 17, I am a die hard rush fan!!! wish I could have gone to one of their concerts back in the day. Still, the time machine tour was just as epic!!!

    Rush for life!!!

  • @naal13 I am 17 and I agree, I would want to see their '70s epics in one night.

  • rush doesnt do a song called caress of steel, but they did do an album called that. thie is from a bootleg called the fifth order of angels.

  • @loggancun This is definitely Neil on drums, because by this time they were touring in the states in 74'

  • @retronovation7 has to be Neil since he wrote most of Caress of Steel lyrics.

  • @dongtingwong yes he did, but note that Garden road was never officially released and performed even before Fly by Night was released.

  • @retronovation7 that, and because you can see him sitting there...

  • I've been a RUSH fan for 20 years, and I've never heard this song! Awesome! They should record this for their next album.

  • What a mind blowing voice Geddy has here! Damn!

  • great job of melding the footage to the songs... thanks so much for this

  • I saw them play live back then and they never did this song.

  • AWESOME.

I tend to forget how hard rocking they were when they started out.

    What a classic band.

  • Goddamn, I love this! Honestly, think this band was way hotter than Zep back in the day!!!

  • @ChristellaKury :@ but it was from n1976 off of the Caress of Steel tour live show. Not avail on any album/cd/dvr/bitemebot it fromUr friend

  • never had a chanch too like until now. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE OR HEARD IT it Rocks & the video is PRICELESS RUSH Rules

  • rock&roll

  • inspired by the new Rush documentary which featured this rawkin ass tune from the early 70s. alex lifeson smokes on this and geddy lee is a rock freak nerd- love it!

  • lol saw this on the rush documentary!

  • this song rocks my fuckin face off! alex lifeson is smokin on this!

  • Thanx jemmani22, I heard that John had kidney problems...that explains the drinking issues. I think Rush would have still done great things without Neil, but without John Alex and Geddy, Neil wouldn't have approached the band in the first place...R.I.P. John Rutsy

  • Look guys... John Rutsy was awesome...what ever happened to him? I understand he had heath problems, then Niel showed up......History and something else was born. Get back to me on this...

  • @Dahstin he had diabetes and drank heavily, so their manager wouldnt let him tour because he woulda been another john bonham/keith moon story.

he died a few years back. he was a great drummer though

  • oh wow where did you get this? this is from the "Down the Tubes" Tour

  • Love Rush!!

  • As far as I know, the live recording was in '74 not long after Neil joined the band. You can hear his signature double-bass chops all over the song.

The Caress Of Steel footage is definitely misleading, but who cares? It' still Rush. lol

  • Agreed, however i believe that this song was written by Ged, Al and John back in 73. Sounds like johns playing. Video is just footage I believe, however I could be very wrong.

  • woops, wrong drummer/video. not peart

  • @neilbubbachuck If it's Caress of Steele it's Neil.

  • neil peart solo caress of steel

  • Definitely one that I don't know from this time period...Garden Road...interesting.

  • Hey guys check out our band Panacea. We are heavily influenced by Rush. Please subscribe and we accept ALL friend requests. We already have a few videos out there.

  • Rush needs to do this Live, today. on tour

  • dude wat album is this song from?

  • He needs to quit suckin in the helium before he sings!!!

  • @u2youtoo Geddy Lee's high voice IS Rush. Without it, its not Rush

  • dude, this song is called garden road, not caress of steel.

  • @David71294GR Caress of steel is one of my favorite songs of thers

  • @David71294GR yes and it's not even neil playing ....it's john rutsey

  • Well it's John on the audio, and Neil in the video!

  • Holy shit balls! I never knew of this song. Who wrote it?

I've seen RUSH seven times. Garden road is perhaps heaven?

  • @Dahstin haha. holy shit balls hey? :)

  • Wow!!! Love this post!!!

  • HIP-MO-TIZZING!!!!

  • Wow! Great post, great footage. Thanks for sharing!

  • RUSH / "GARDEN ROAD"....Rush original...written circa 1970

  • that scream at :50! so awesome!

  • what an awesome voice!

  • It truly gets better every time. The masters of alll heavy rock and roll. It's a moment captured in time which is ours (Rush fans) to experience forever. Raw energy raw talent raw beauty in every sense. Only YOU can accept this gift. BELIEVE!!

  • This is good..People, took the time back then to dial the sound in properly..I know its not the video recording.

  • holy crap thank you whoever posted this!!!!

  • do my ears deceive me? never heard this before! there has to more of this as i'm sure they didn't set up to record just the one tune. something to live for!!

  • @lyticityl

This is from a 1974 live bootleg titled: "The Fifth Order of Angels".

    Look it up.

    Freakin GREAT stuff!

  • This is not on the Caress of Steel LP. It should be♫ Thanx for posting♪♪♪♥

  • fucking incredible... never heard this before.. and i thought i was on top of rush... thank you whoever posted this... a now more complete rush fan since 76!!

  • fantastic where the flip is this footarge from ?

  • Best thing I have ever seen in my life! What great sound and video.

  • Holy Crap Awesome everything in this video! My first concert in 77 A Farewell to Kings.

  • yeah never heard this tune......listen to alex on the wah wah.........priceless royal shredding......

  • The internet does rule, this is badass...

  • Where did this song come from???Never heard this one before, and I've been a fan forever.

  • Geddy with the Rickenbaker is always good!!!!

  • internet phucking RULES!!!

  • Where on Earth did this footage come from? Awesome!!!!

  • some amazing talent right cheer. canada is way underrated with their contribution to north american music.

  • @tomitstube And music period!!

  • @tomitstube They got the OoC , 2? years ago.

  • They aren't playing "Garden Road" they never used that song in any tour past the career move. They Hate that song I think(though none of thier true fans do!) The lighting and effect is indeed convincing though odviously no lip sync but still convincing.

  • I think it should be released as a "DEMO" extra to appease some restless fans even if the trio hated thier early songs!

  • @fucheduck from who is this song? is a Rush song original? thx

  • Uma banda incrível do Canadá( um dos países que mais admiro ), eles cantam demais e tocam pra caramba! É muito talento em uma banda só!!!

  • history will show we were right to believe

  • Alex is maybe 22 when this tune was recorded and you can already hear he is crazy good.

  • They're all crazy good at that age, and just got better...

  • OMG,this song F'en RAAAWKS!! THANK-YOU for posting it!! RUSH RULES!!

  • the sound if from the fifth order of angels

  • now this is f'n incredible... thank you! rush rules and paige wishes he was that clean! Alex is like- paige and eddieVH at this point in his life... then grows into his own in a year or 2. sweet!

  • Nice job!

  • Hmmmm! Sounds ominously similar to How many more times does it not? and that solo is Page for page, so to speak!

  • so awsome! i never knew this song till today. i was looking for Bastille day. probaly my new favourite RUSH song :)

  • I know "Garden Road".....but where is this vid stuff from?ain't seen it before-very impressed.

  • This is from The Agora in Cleveland. Aug'74 I believe.

  • Lifeson is a guitar god. I wouldn't compare him to Page. He is in the same league of course, but they are both amazing musicians.

  • Alex reveres Jimmy Page and names him as a primary influence. Geddy and Robert Plant shared a vacation and became friends in the last 90s; and Alex & Geddy saw Page & Plant's Toronto tour stop and hung out with them backstage before the show. So yeah. Pays to know what you're talking about.

  • There was a different energy going on by this time, but Rush energy has always been divine to me.

  • Happy Birthday, Geddy Lee!!

    July 29th

  • hey assholes

     blue is better than yellow

  • do you think Alex Lifeson would bad mouth Jimmy Page the way you half assed talentless shits would; or do you think he would be more likely to laud him? Just thinking out loud, joining all the dots; you know - pointlessly.

  • ok this isn't a Rush song is it?

  • Guitar Player Mar06 pg 74 Lifeson backstage with Page( on tour) who described Rush as "one of the young bands I like" Alex says Jimmy was "sweet, charming & engaging....you meet your hero and he is a hero!"

Coolness and respect trump all 'interpretations' of talent

  • Someone said Jimmy Page is better than Lifeson? Someone hasn't listened to, or watched, very much Rush, then. Each of these guys is easily in the Top 5 for their own instruments (Lee being on bass, as his vocals is an acquired taste,) and they're still together, friends, and playing.

  • Only Geddy's voice is an acquired taste(by the way is my favorite of all Rock singers) but his bass playing is by far every bass players taste and i am a bass player and when i talk to others even if they don't like Rush they say Geddy is king of bass playing don't wanna seem like a jackass btw

  • Hell, WORKINGMAN blows away most of what Jimi Page has done. Seriously!

  • yes Jimi Page. But Jimmy Page is his real name. Also don't say anything about Jimmy Page fool.

  • STFU. Jimi, Jimmy, Jymme, who the fuck cares.

Jimi Hendrix makes Page look like an amateur.

But that's besides the point. Page is over rated.

  • Yeah, because I must have been talking about someone else because I spelled the name wrong.

    STFU.

  • yeah w.e buddy. Fucking Jimmy Page rapes Working Man.

  • Give me one song where Jimmy plays anything close, just one.

  • The Rover

  • Ok I've listened to the rover a thousand times, but I wanted to listen to it right now so that it was fresh in my mind.

Are you out of yours? You couldn't have come up with anything better than that? Please. I almost fell asleep.

Hell Kashmir is better than The Rover. Geez

  • Jimmy Page is great at doing riffs ( actually his are most of the best in Rock History ), but I don`t like his solo that much. He`s kinda untidy for that, especially live. But anyway I have a lot of respect for him and Led Zep. They`ve been and influence to lots of bands, even my favourite one: RUSH!!!

  • Not even close.

  • ok w.e. I am a rush fan 2. But i love Led Zeppelin better. I love Rush 2.

  • your not even close

  • Heartbreaker, Communication Breakdown, How Many More Times, Bring It On Home, Out on The Tiles.

  • Rush and Zep are different beasts entirely, ...Zep is a Blue Hard rock band, Rush is a Progresive Hard Rock Trio... Like Red and white wine...both are equally great...just a different taste and one sometimes goes better than the other, depending on what you are "EATING" :)

  • great song ! great band! true rock & roll !

  • I think my mom has this song on one of her Rush records from when she was a kid

  • Led Zeppelin are shit, compared to Rush.

  • ohoh don't exaggerate!! led zep are the greatest and most influential band of all time!!

  • I think the Beatles would have something to say about that.

  • apples to oranges

  • RUSH has the brains but zep had the heart and the soul. And Jimmy Page, even with all his flaws , could produce beauty or power that RUSH just can't quite muster. Very close, but not quite.

  • Yeah, but compare Stairway to Heaven to 2112, and you notice that zep have so much repetition that it's just boring. Sorry to all zep fans.

  • 2112 is a cool song - of course it's more of a musical story than a song. But to me, Led zep isn't about Stairway to Heaven. I never even listen to that song.

  • i they both had a lot of heart and soul.

You cannot measure the amount each band had, because of what great music they made.

No comparison between each band, both in different leagues all to themselves.

  • Zep had heart and soul? You mean when John Bonham was pissing in his pants when he was riding on the tour bus, or when they stolen music and lyrics from older black artists? I don't see the heart and soul.

RUSh has heart and soul, not really Zep.

Or do you mean when Zep can't even get together due to monetary issues? I just don't see where you are coming from.

  • all you Zep-haters love to accuse them of stealing music from black artists. Always playing the race card.

I would point out that RUSH owes its very existence to Led Zeppelin. Anyone with ears knows that RUSH copied led zeppelin's sound.

  • They were more influenced by cream honestly. Sure there was a little bit of Zep in them, but they had a ton of influenced. Which songs are you referring to? They to me sounded more like Genesis and Yes than Zep. But sure there is a little Zep in them.

  • Rush has always sounded like Rush. I admit there were influences like with every band, but their approach to music has been pretty unique in the different periods, they`ve always stood out.

  • and furthermore, I was mainly referring to the fact that LZ has a better guitarist . In an era when guitars and riffs meant everything, Rush was indeed a bit lacking in that department.

  • Better guitarist is just an opinion. I've never heard Jimmi Page do anything like I hear in The Necromancer, La Villa, By-Tor. This doesn't mean I think or that Jimi Page isn't one of the best there ever was, but I think Alex was easily just as good, easily. If not better.

  • I can't disagree more.

  • Since I been Loving You, Thank You, What is and What Should Never Be, The Lemon Song.

  • Oh shit , this song kicked my ass & I thought I knew all RUSH, just goes to show you , Rush still lives, & thrives in Hearts & minds of true music fans

  • GEDDY + ALEX + NEIL = RUSH baby!

  • eat your heart out Zeppelin

  • wow . just awesome yeah !!!

  • Man i didnt see these guy's until moving pictures

    tour 81".With the 80's all these great 70's rocker's

started cutting there hair...I liked this area so much more especially back then...

  • Pure gold.

  • The song is "Garden Road" a song they never released on an album because, and I quote from Neil Peart, "I was not in the band when they did those." end quote. This is live from 1974, where a DJ from Cleveland invited them down to play a show, and this was on their. I believe you can download the video somewhere, the album is 'Fifth Order of (the) Angels". Good luck!!!

    Rush on!!!

  • Great work on doing the video for this. I almost believe it's real.

  • Now, this is Classic Rush footage !! LONG LIVE RUSH !!!

  • huh?

  • actually Reunite Under Satan's Hell

  • who said rush ain't heavy?ReUnite in Satan's Hell.

  • Still love it,after 25 years.Couldn`t be better!!!

  • make it 35!

  • Sorry

  • In Holland they weren't even mentioned when they played the SARS concert a few years back.

But who gives a shit.. these guys are so BIG.

They are not only the founders of speedmetal (listen to the Necromancer) but they started as a real garageband!! What now New York dolls, ramones or IGGY... GEDDY is the shit.

    Great posting. thnx

  • I'm afraid i'd have to give the 'founders of speedmetal' nod to Black Sabbath, but, as you can probably tell by my screen name, I'm the Southwest's (United States) biggest Rush fan.

  • Black sabbath; speed metal??? uh...

    maybe deathmetal, but speed???

Name me one song that did it for BS, i mean speedwise.

Best period of BS was with Dio by the way, i'm not to fond of Ozzy

  • I'll disagree with you about the Dio period, not bad, but nowgere near the Ozzy years.

I'm not too sure about deeming them death metal either.. how bout sludge metal?

Rush definately shreeded the shit back in the day! COS was the break through of thing to come. COS and FTK are my faves.

  • Sludge Metal was waaaaaaaaaay later. You're thinking Doom Metal and Traditional Heavy Metal.

  • Symptom of the Universe. However, the speed + metal thing pretty much goes back to "Communication Breakdown."

  • communication breakdown, from led zep??

    you're teasing me, right??

it's riff and drums are plain hardrock.

Even Queen's stone cold crazy (74) is speed metal

    compared to that.

  • When I think '60s hard rock, I get more of a "You've Really Got me, Now" image. At the very least, "Communication Breakdown" is proto-metal.

Also, "Stone Cold Crazy" /is/ considered by a significant amount of people to be an early example of speed metal, or a close parent.

  • i love discussion like this,

could you please explain what proto metal is??

And i honestly think stone cold crazy misses one important speed metal ingredient; double bass 'all over the place'... just an opinion, hail to you rockers!
