hows the tracking on this pedal ?? i hope it dosent lag when you play note by note or does it ? i have the boss ps-5 shiffter and it sucks !!! tracking is horrible.
What do you need to utilize the "distortion loop" as it says on the video? Can't that sound (at 2:35) be achieved by simply using a channel with distortion on your amp?
how the hell are u supposed to hook this into a pedalboard setup that already has noise gate loops with this having its own dirt loop, mono in and stereo outs? wtf
Real sweet melodic death metal thing going. Exactly what I am looking for. Now I know what I am looking for next guitar center trip.(When I got the money for this bank busting s.o.b.)
so what the distortion loop allows you to do is to harmonize the signal and blend it with the distorted signal?, so what you get at the end is your distorted signal and the clean harmonized signal?
phooey, the guy at guitar center couldnt find an adapter that would fit the plug on this one, so i could never try it, sounds a lot more believable than the boss one i have
Do I have to have a distortion pedal hooked up to this harmony man if my amp already has built in distortion. I'm trying to duplicate the harmony for Round and Round (Ratt). No getting the correct interval. This pedal is like aforeign language to me and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Man, I love this video. It made me go buy the pedal right away! I swear I have watched this 4 times because it is the best way to learn how to use the pedal. Thanks man and keep playin!! =j
I was wondering how should I do if for example I wanna connect the harmony man with a delay and a reverb pedal all in the fx loop. Do I still have to connect the output of the guitar to the input of the harmony man or can I put the guitar on the fx that are in the chain that goes to the input of the amp? I'm a little bit confused :)
I don't mean to be a snob or anything, but just curious:
1) Does it only recognize the major/minor scale and the modes, or can you use it to more dissonant scales like melod. minor, diminished, etc?
2) Let's say you're playing a tune that changes keys quickly (e.g. a bebop tune), would it recognize it?
3) In the last example (Hotel California) there is some independent voice movement (the 3rds become 4ths). Does the pedal "create" the harmonies freely (not only all voices moving equally)?
Can you do harmonies with the micro pog? I'm looking for something to do Allman Bros and Thin Lizzy harmonies but I like the fact that the micro pog handles chords. Let me know what you guys think!
@MayonaiseKing100 you mean like the new heavy metal kiddy stuff, lame solos no backbeat, generic guitar tones that all sound the same, bands you could switch out members and never notice a difference, cookie monster vocals, or repetive grooves that get really boring, oh yah they often don't have enough melody lines to ever need this pedal, besides when iron maiden first came out, it wasn't the d&d crowd, that listened, but that's what happens when your music is popular for 20 years or more.
How will the pedal work with something like the Dunlop Slash Crybaby that has a distortion channel built in? Would the wah go in the loop, before the HM2 or AFTER it?
Hey, I just bought this pedal (I already have the jamman) I was wondering how to hook up the two so I can use them simaltaneously while hearing the loop playback...I can't figure it out. And also, should I put my distortion and Rotovibe pedal in the distortion send. Thanks for your help. Keep on Rocking!
Would you please advis e me Is this capable of 3 part harmonies ( above and below the notes played ) and automatically detects the correect key according to the chords played into the auxillary input ?? So it can do a Brian May Steve Vai type harmony
whereas the Boss PS 5 will provide a harmony note either below or above to create a Thin Lizzy type 2 part harmony based on the scale and key you've chosen. ?? Thanks Craig
@LaurenceArmitage with something like this, id try it running direct from the guitar. it would work running in the loop im sure, but like the guy says, harmonizers like a clean input. i think it would get too muddy if you run this with too many other pedals....but thats just what i would assume
@LaurenceArmitage You have an effects loop in your head? Just kidding. Yes i would run it through the loop before the delay. Depends on preference though.
@10yearsofdying I use a Boss MT2 through a Marshall MG50DFX amp, works well for me, although I am sure if I got a better amp I wouldn't need the MT2. Really it is probably a better idea to get a decent amp suited to heavy metal, as distortion pedals can be somewhat limited and if gain is too high the distortion tone will just sound like a swarm of angry bees in a jar with lots of uncontrollable feedback. Look to distortion pedals only if you can't afford a good amp. My 2 cents :)
Okay, all i want to know is...why does this thing need to have a clean input...if im playing through my marshall jmp's natural distortion this thing isnt gonna work??? whats the deal with this distortion loop thing? i just dont understand...all i ever see is the clean tone harmonies, where the Thin Lizzy man?!
To be short and sweet, you never want to place distortion before pitch shifting pedals, they won't track accurately. Your amp settings are irrelevant, that's after the signal is processed. The loop lets you distort your signal before it get's shifted, which sounds more convincing than placing a pedal after the HM2..the manual in online too :)
@ProGuitarShopDemos You touched on something I've been trying to figure out: if you want have a lot of gain in conjunction with this pedal, do you have to use the distortion send/return or can you just run it after the harmony man? The reason I ask is because my distortion and the bulk of my other effects come from a floor board (Line 6 Floor Pod Plus), so tacking that on to the back of this one pedal wouldn't exactly be practical for me.
@jflotrogdor running the distortion in the loop shifts the distorted signal, sounding like 2 disto guitars in harmony. Running the distortion after the output distorts the notes together, kind of like playing it on one guitar. To hear the difference record yourself playing a simple succession of thirds first together through distortion, then overdub the upper note over the previously recorded lower one. Mod and delay effects probably need to go after, which is the rub for multi effects units.
@ProGuitarShopDemos So for example, would you not want to put distortion/overdrive and other volume related pedals before a digitech whammy in your line?
@Trophywifepa - Probably not, due to the potential for tracking issues, but feel free to experiment. Some people probably use it that way and like it.
@ProGuitarShopDemos I didn't understand. From what you say, there are track problems if you have an od before the shift, but you say the loop does exactly that, put the od before the shift. Isn't an amp with od after the shift too, acting like an od pedal? I don't own this but I own a Variax and a XT Live and what I've noticed that it's always harder to track the brighter the sound is, for example the neck pickup gives better results (not always perfect) than the bridge in terms of tracking.
pretty much what i was about to say, but it still doesnt do non diatonic keys like harmonic minor suggested, but i geuss you wouldnt reallly want to harmonise that as much
well i read on musicians friend that you could . --- tried a few stompbox dist pedals as instructed in manual, and just couldn't get it work/sound well with my rig placing the HM2 in front of my preamp or using my amps send/ret. I noticed when using the dist send/ret of the HM2, that signal is always active, So I tried my pre-amp through the HM2's dist send/ret, my guitar into the clean in of the HM2, stereo out to my G-Major from the HM2.
You played the Top Gear theme tune (Jesseca) at the start!!! I don't know if you have Top Gear in America or not, so you might not know what I'm talking about!!!! Lol.
