Its a modified version of a late 80's Ibanez RD707. They went out of production in the early 90's. If you go on his official website he tells about what he did to it...
what kind of pickup does that bass have?? its like a big black box, lol. is it like a bunch of pickups together or sumthn?? lol call me dumb but i have no idea what that is. it has a rly nice sound tho
Itis not a pick up at all, Chris's thumbs hyper extend so he has come up with this ramp type system so he can rest his thumb on. It actually helps him play faster
Ramps are used by a lot of players. It helps prevent you from digging in to the strings too much for more consistent sound. It's a device used by Gary Willis and I believe Billy Sheehan. Personally I don't like the idea because sometimes I like to dig in for a different sound.
well, im not gonna b a jackass to learning musicians, unlike zephyr who probably doesnt know a upright bass to a electric, and yes, they are the same notes
Four frets? I can only reach 3 frets on my bass. Its like 20cm between the first and the fourth.

It's like a jazz bass with an H magnet rather than an alnico at the bridge. Makes for that killer Stingray buzz

is there a place people can get these type of things? or do you have to get a specific bass?
thouse would help me also
noshatch19 4 years ago
if you only want to learn i think yes, but if you want the same sound you need a specific bass for Rock style.
Picachu1 3 years ago
If you want something like it, it's as simple as sanding up a piece of wood and gluing it on.

Great video! I've been looking for some scales to practice, while slightly getting into music theory learning the notes and such.
ZaikuVodevil 4 years ago 2
Good stuff for the beginning bass player! Explains some common terminology as well as gives a complete scale.
