I did this performace in 03 when I was in HS. Ahhh the high school days. We had really fun choreography, until the color guard hit mit with their flags.
wow, memory lane much? freshmen year, first comp. ever, Brooks, Miguel, Ali and Myself (the euphonium section FYI), and i saw myself! damn and we just did our last comp. yestrday too. man on the waterfront for life!!!
A good high school version of this is Williamstown High School from Kentucky. If you ever get a chance to pick up a copy of the 2007 state finals d.v.d. I highly recommend it. Actually there are a lot of good bands on there. just check it out. By the way, I played the horn solo at the beginning and this kid did a much better job than me.
Yes, I agree, this show is very slow and not very exciting. I understand you had little time and poor field conditions but I was expecting more from a band this size, atleast soundwise. My band is also doing this show this year, and we are much smaller than you guys.
Here is the thing. This fieldshow was put on in about five weeks. Considering that we only practiced one hour a day M-F and three more hours on thursdays, makes it somewhat difficult to have the show clean. Also, try to imagine changing tempos with 150 people without anyone referencing time. Also, it is customed to have the drum majors count the first four beats to start the show in SoCal.
also try marching on a dirt field were the janitors nor the school give care much about the band. our field isnt very familiar with straight hash marks. and seriously the show was pretty much just thrown together in like a month or so. and yet we were still clean!
yeah, our field kind of sucks. and we really dont have the time that most schools have to rehearse. and i must say, we still did a pretty damn good job given our circumstances
What do you mean 'slow tempo?' If you're refering to the tempo change in the first movement, listen to the actual suite, and the new tempo was at 180bpm. Try marching that.
maybe its just because im used to hearing "on the waterfront" played by the 97 vanguard, which was probably at like 210bpm, but that sounds really really slow (like 150ish)
This is not 180..140 tops.
