I initially played DAO as a mage and I have gone through this scene and I felt bad for him. Then I decided to start a new game as a warrior (which went longer) and was really annoyed at Jowan because he was the one who *SPOLIER* poisoned the Arl of Eamon.

He was originally meant to be a party member. What really ticked me off was when you meet the blood mage lady in the tower later on, and it gives you the dialogue option to recruit her ... and she's never seen again.

And before this I actually thought of him as a good friend. I couldn't believe that he was a blood mage and that he lied. Then, I became a blood mage and raped every single darkspawn I saw with Blood Wound. IT WAS AWESOME.

When you meet him in Redcliffe, tell him to leave and that you never want to see him again.

He'll run off.

A little later, you get a chanter's board quest to hunt down everyone's favorite bloodmage. Once you actually find him, you can either kill him or let him go.

@cuzzo820 Jowan was meant to be a party member very early in development, but it was scrapped. He probably would have taught you blood magic instead of the demon in Connor.

Most comments say"blood mages ftw,i want to become a blood mage"etc.My opinion is that evil magic such as blood magic should not be used..I for example,didn't deal with that desire demon and I'm a normal mage now..and I have no problems with my power untill now..but maybe,when I'll fight the Arch Demon,I will knwo if I lack offense..for now,things are pretty easy.Anyway,as I was saying,I've tried to avoid blood magic until now and I've regained the Circle's trust,but all this is just my opinion.

@Gokuisthebest312 Blood magic is a means to an end. What a mage does with blood magic makes it good or evil. I think using blood magic on innocent people to augment your own abilities is evil but using blood magic to protect a loved one or to defend against darkspawn is not.

In the concept stage of the game you could use The Right of Conscription to recruit Jowan as a Grey Warden and a party member, but it was scrapped early in development :(.

@batista777 That was a MAJOR plot hole. The Knight-Commander, the First Enchanter, AND two other templars all stunned by a mage who didn't even pass his harrowing test?! That would have been an epic fight for a full party just to take down Griegor and Irving, not to mention the other two templars.

I helped him in the beginning, saved him at redcliff but he chose to redeem himself, i tried to get the Arl to release him, i even made jowan kill the desire demon to save connor.... BUT STILL they turned him over, all i can say is that i hope he lives in dragon age 2
