"Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT owing NO allegiance and acknowledging NO responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul this unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today." PRESIDENT THEODORE ROOSEVELT, 1906
Have to agree about the picture. I thought he looked his best with a beard and the glasses and love this song. Bought the album when it came out on 8 track.
@TheButtonLady me too. had a black and white cat in the 80's named after this song.have a big black and white cat now i call hercules when someone asks but i just call him kitty
yeah,,.elton is an anomally,..he seemed so "ungay"? especially in his writing?,,..anyhow ,i could give a fuck,..its just an impression,,..does that seem weird?,..anyhow ,..just a thought
I remember buying this album when it came out on 8 track. I was surprised that this song was never considered one of his best. It was always my favorite on the album
I like that picture of him as well....looks kinda rugged....then he got all prissy in later years. I like his music just the same, especially the older stuff like this
@technocrash09 "The public is practically unaware of the over wheming responsibility carried by the Vatican and its Jesuits in the starting of the two world wars-m a situation which may be explained in part by the gigantic finances at the disposition of vatican and its jesuits."---Edmond paris, The secret history of the Jesuits
it's a good example of elton's early vocal talent and, especially of his brillant band: (elton is one of few big solo artists who credited and PAID his musicians throughout his career. as far as i know he still employs them and respects them...a great credit to our bewigged, chubby friend...)
this whole forgotten album is brilliant - singing, playing, production...
the only bad thing is the terrible picture on the album sleeve...elton should never have been allowed to look moody or wear a beard (disaster)...even so - this is one of great albums of the early 70s...compares with neil young, bowie, bolan, lennon, joni - a few others...
No you aren't the only one. My reason for loving this song is because I had a cat named Hercules. I had him before I ever knew there was a song out about a cat named Hercules. Reply to me and I will give the whole story about my stray cat named Hercules.
I love this album so ****ing much!

hard to pick singles for airplay from this lp, very underrated, very consistent, seems introspective, unfocused, eccentric.needs time.
