dont get me started on the core, as a geologist i can say that not one part of that film is possible, and the bits that are are failed by eveything around them that ruins it!
the moon is open for exploration,Japan,Europe,China,India are all looking at itt up close, including pictures of the Apollo landing sites, sorry no ET.We will have bases full time,in 29 years.
"It matches my shirt too" Wow Chris is such a loser. I especially love his "woah!!" at 5:01 when Phil talks about Star Trek. 1:58 is also a hilariously fake reaction face. No, wait, 3:04 was the worst.
"lol The video sent back was not real. The original transmission had "things" that are not meant for the public to see." What like 'moon bases' from ET? Give me a fucking break. I suppose India and China are going to have to 'doctor' their transmissions as well?
Convert some red-shirt to energy! BWAH HAH HAH! Excellent. Very bizarre audio mix though - I could barely hear the talking when the clips were shown.
btw Phil is right about freezing turning you into mush - however, I must point out that real-world cryonics has moved on significantly now and is no longer done that way: they now effectively turn you into "glass" instead of ice. That said, it's still a long shot :)
My biggest pet peeve with Sci-Fi movies is "sound in outer space". I always cringe when you can hear the laser fire and the rumble of ships, etc. Of course, total silence doesn't capture the imagination quite like a nifty sound effect, but it somehow seems more elegant.
If you are not still too busy, then please make some new science videos. That ask-the-astronomer thing you recommended instead was a dud. Not a word from that gentleman. Astronomy cafe, as it turns out, is one big plug for his books - most questions refer to his books. The world needs a dose of Plait!
He's right that most of the sci-fi movies have bad science EXCEPT Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Improbability drive is real and the answer to everything is in fact 42.
Great video, Phil. We have a program in Britain called 'Hollywood science', where two guys actually set up fairly crude experiments in an attempt to find out if certain aspects of a film (they look at a different one each week) are realistic.
Love your site, by the way. I am a regular lurker. Merry Newtonmas(s), Phil!
Chris Pirillo brought with him the death of TechTV, ZDTV, and the rural nerd's only chance at watching real technology television in the middle of nowhere.
who ever's running the sound board on that episode should have been fired. the clips they play AS YOUR TALKING are so loud i can't make out what your saying. such idiocy.

If you want to talk about misconceptions, why not start with your misrepresentation of the Kaysing vs Lovell trial?

America and the rest of the world needs more people promoting science like Dr. Plait does, in a fun and down to Earth way. Way to go!

Hi Phil,
I think that no other man has so much patience as you.
The host is a nerdy idiot, and you are a very understandable scientist.
What was the editor thinking putting you two into the same space?
By the way, you said quite nice things, thanks for it.
Cheers
