Nice job spelling his name wrong. Great playing though. One of the greatest drummers in history. Not quite as good as he used to be but that is to be expected at his age.
nice job sick bro All great drummers out there do not copy anything that i do this is because im just improvising every single song i do i improvise but if you do try and copy what i do ......you are my friend :D thank you people and please subscribe & comment on my videos for your own opinion :D click on my link \T/
my parents just saw him for their 19th anniversary... i didnt get to go because, which killed me but he is such a sick drummer. jazz drumming is massively intricate and complicated
I have no idea how he still manages to play like this at his age. I want to know his secret. If I harness his power at my age, no telling how long I could live and still play.
One of the most beautiful things about music is the playing does all the speaking one needs to do.....indeed, we all hear the playing over what a musician says about himself or what others have to say. I would like to add, Roy Haynes is DA MAN!
I went to his 80th birthday party at the Artist Quarter in St Paul, and he played two sets just like this. I got to meet him backstage. He is one awesome person. He let a high school kid come up and play his drums in the middle of one set! He's very cool...
Roy: the greatest living master of his generation on the drums. Peer of Elvin, Max, Art, Mel Lewis, Billy Higgins... the torch-carriers as laid down by Papa Jo and Kenny Clarke... and Roy is the last one standing! I bow to The Man!
Don't know for sure if he's 80 on this video, he can be maybe 78. But it doesn't matter. He plays fucking great, man. He's the only musician in history who evolved himself from 60 years until now.

He was born in 1925, so he's older than you might think. Of course this is a very old clip.

@mlcoo17 this is 2005 modern drummer festival, he turned 80 that year, do the math.

This was a few years ago. At least 6, and that was just when I first saw the clip. From looking at him, I'm pretty sure he's in the sixties.

He don't look 80. Sure doesn't dress like it. His grandson Jeremy is a beast.

If your ears and memory are still good the chops will not be an issue. Watch Roy, very easy of motion, great chops, still playing with great taste.
