Rusty, unfortunately a great talent and a severe loss to The Chessmen,was not allowed to play with us on that appearance of The Ted Mack Thing!So in essence he had to watch!Which must have been devastating to a young talented teenager! It was a Union Rule!

Don't remember his name, but he was one of the black guys in the group, and he still lived in the New York area--maybe even still in the Dyckman area, although I'm not sure. He may have been the lead singer--he told me that he's sung with all kinds of bands, but he kept going back to do-wop.
@RaananVolesPianist Hi! I am om one of those Chessmen! There were 3 guys out of the Dyckman Projects that were recruited into the original Chessmen before Lead singer Ralph Colarte!
@RaananVolesPianist They were Billy Syms Lead singer who can be seen on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour,very old show.Good stuff,we sang Blue Moon! Than there was Rusty Banks,Pianist as you are.

I have something in common with the Chessmen--they're from the Dyckman Project, I was originally from the Marble Hill project.

These guys are from the Dyckman project, upper Manhattan. I interviewed them for an article I wrote about acapella back in the early '80s.

@RaananVolesPianist
Ummm, I'm not sure you got an interview with them in the early 80's and if you did there was a member missing. My father, William Ramirez?
Because he's been in Texas since '75. Maybe you got the dates mixed up?

@BrittPaige567
Dear Britt Paige
You're right--it was the early '80s, but it was only one Chessman, not the whole group.--RG
